hey guys,
i'm curently creating a web site but the design is really minimalistic but not in a good way :D where do professional web designers get their ideas from? I've seen plenty of professional and extremely pleasing web sites out there..

Depents. Some may get it from nature, architecture, etc.
Or from other web design's.

Start by checking out deviantart.com - go to the web design section and filter by the best in this month, etc. Also look at people's favourist, and check out web design group's.

Then you now have site's like http://www.behance.net, the Pinterest of Design.

Dribbble.com and Forrst.com are good. Both are invite only communities though.

I try to think of ideas when I sleep or just look at deviant art. The brain normally takes over the creativity after an idea is set.

Pattern tap is gold if you're looking for quick inspiration. Personally, my best ideas come when I'm just drawing scribbles or generic household tasks.

Whatever website your trying to design just simply type that topic into a browser and
look at other website designed. Do not copy the design. However you can use there
already successful website as some inspiration and make your website even better than
other peoples.

Good Luck !

Whenever I need inspiration I go to themeforest.com. It has some awesome collection of themes which are truly inspirational

Hiya,

Gettin inspiration problems i see.....well try this easy thing that usually helps me out.
Take a look at some of the websites that are in the same niche as what you want to create ....afterwards choose 2 -3 that actually are good and start creating a mix of those ( usein their best parts ).

And ofc the finnishing touch ...add your own ideas into the design. This last thing comes easy after you start working.

Hope this helps you out.

smashing magazine used to be a good resource. i also recall some resources in flickr or somewhere. just google "web design inspirations" to find them.

I'd agree with what this guy says. Look around for some really nice wordpress themes and find one that fits into whatever you're making a website about. TemplateMonster is also a good one as you can find suitable templates by category. I wouldn't purchase a template from them myself, but it gives you a good idea of what's available and what you can work with.

I don't exactly specialise in web design, but I spend a large portion of my time doing it. I generally use a minimalist Themeforest template and modify the design to meet my / clients needs. I'm not very creative :(

I'd recommend also to go on twitter put a search for web design and you'll get a lot of web resource sites and designers. The beauty of twitter
is once you start following a company or individual web designer you'll get a lot of tweets with links to websites, lessons and freebies.
Good luck.

There are lot's of great sources for inspiration on the internet. Template sites are an okay place to start.

Simply put: From other websites.
You have to look at many other websites and there are many studys, which can help you, too!

For example:
You have to design a website for a lawyer. The first thing you do is, that you look at other lawyer's websites and maybe some very popular lawyer's websites.

Looking at winning sites of design contests is also a great thing to do. Often these sites are very modern, so you can find many things you can combine with regular elements.

kind regards,
SICK

coming up with a new theme from scratch is really hard. I always just take a random theme and start modifying it.

I started with this theme:

Code:
[URL]http://www.css3templates.co.uk/templates/CSS3_one/index.html[/URL]

And built this website:

Code:
[URL]http://w3max.net/[/URL]
