I had a self-promotional signature for a few days. I won't repeat it here, but it was nothing vulgar or spammy, and didn't contain any links.

A mod replaced it with "Oops, I was caught breaking the signature rules, shame on me," with no explanation.

Can someone tell me where the signature rules are listed?

A big perk of being a loyal member of a forum is mild self-promotion in the sig. I know that they want us to pay for a service thread, but this is ridiculous. I was thinking of buying one, actually, it's only what, $30? After this, though, I don't think I will.

When I used the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of the forum and described the issue, I immediately received a reply from an auto-responder saying, essentially, "if you want support, become a donor." Very tacky.

I've added a lot of value to the forum since I joined, and this is pretty screwy.

Any insights are appreciated.

At the top of the page where it says forum rules. Inside the forum rules you will find details regarding the use of signatures.

The signature rules in place are just fine IMO. Nobody wants to come here and browse threads filled with shit filled signatures. Requiring a donor status helps keep the forum cleaner since everyone has some skin ($) in the game.

Thanks for the info.

For the purpose of discussion, let's say my sig was this:

"Get a Pinterest campaing that converts. PM Me"

It was that, word for word, except for "Pinterest Campaign."

Now, the sig rules state,

"You must be a member of the forum for 30 days and have 50 quality posts before you will be allowed to use a signature on this forum. In order to use links or images in your signature, you must be a "Donor." You may post 2-3 affiliate links or 1 SMALL banner in your signature. Do not use a font size larger than 2, crazy fonts/colors, sound clips, excessive smileys, or anything else annoying."

I did not post any links in my sig. What rule did I break?

Thanks for any insights.

to have a sig for promotion u need to be a donor member
its that simple, that way only payed members promote
a product and cuts down on spammy crap

asking people to pm on things like this
Get a Pinterest campaing that converts. PM Me

mods will see it as a way to break sale form a jv
thats not sanctioned on the forum. it happens
all the time . sales via pm with no sales thread
are a no no

So it's like an unspoken rule. Okay, thanks for the info.

A mod explanation at the time would have been nice. I'm not a free-loader here. I was thinking of donating and starting a service thread. I'll have to think about that now, but I do like the site.

the specific rule is that all services must go in the BST section, which requires you to become a donor, pay the listing fee, and have your service manually approved by a mod.

promoting your service in your signature is equivalent to circumventing the BST requirements, and thus is not allowed as it would be unfair to all the other members who followed the correct BST procedure.

Don't take your sig being removed and the autoresponse as spammy. I'm sure many are banned daily and countless E-mails are sent requesting clarification of *why* they were banned. Combined with infractions, etc. it becomes a moderation/admin nightmare and impossible to respond to so many requests. Such rules are needed not necessarily because of you, but because of many before you.

The rule you quoted is Section 5, which is the specific rule regarding signatures. It basically deals with when and who can use signatures and the type of links and images that can be used. But you still need to read the rest of the rules because there are general rules which you still have to follow in your sig as well. You should definitely read section 3 which deals with prohibited content.

Many rules apply to the forum in general, not just your sig. It looks like that's what happened in this case. Here's the specific rule that applies to the sig you posted.
3.6 Advertising to, or solicitation of, any member to buy or sell any products or services through the unauthorized or impermissible use of the Site such as PM solicitation. (Note: If you have something you want to sell on this forum, post it in the For Sale section).

Using a sig to request people send a PM might not be as bad as PM spamming, but it's still a form of soliciting through PM. Depending on what you're promoting sometimes they'll let it go (a graphic design freelancer for instance or similar types are *sometimes* allowed). But even then - any time you're asking for a PM in your sig, you run the risk of it being deemed unacceptable.

Thanks for the info, guys. :)

I was in fact promoting graphic design, so it looks like that's not safe either.

So what it boils down to is, "pay to promote, or GTFO.":P. Understood.

Well a "Pinterest campaing that converts" sounds like something a bit more than freelance graphic design work. :) If I was looking to get a nice logo or header made for a website, I doubt I'd even think about sending you a PM based on that sig. lol

But yeah, for the most part if you want to sell anything you're expected to be a donor and pay for a bst.

Ok, thanks.

The sig was, "Need a professionally designed _____ that converts? PM me."

I got quite a few responses. Maybe that's why it was nixed. They were all lowball offers though, so this probably isn't the best forum for this particular item anyway.

Thanks for all the info.

Thanks Big, I did indeed get 3 PMs on DP just now for the item at my advertised price.

I'm sure the performance of this particular item would be better here if I had a bst.

Wow, the shitlist is scary!
