I think not. Or your mechanic? Or your favorite fast food place? No? Why would your content writer be any different.

I can pretty much guarantee that anyone who writes for free is desperate, and hence, not a very good writer at all.

How many times you have visited a doctor or a mechanic when you do not even know if they are capable of curing or rectifying your problem.

So that free sample will justify the capability of the article writer , how suited he or she is for the project !

Why do you need a "free sample"? Respectable writers can show you their PORTFOLIO's that are full of pieces they've written -- but I don't think any befitting writer would write a high quality piece for free.

If not $3 to $5 per article is a ridiculous offer for someone from the USA or UK or Australia etc.
You might get away with paying $3 to $5 per article if you pay an Indian, but of course expect generally shitty articles with grammar errors, context errors, and spelling errors.

Reasonable pay for a writer to write a 450 word article is $20 or more.

With all due respect , i know certain Indians who write a lot better content than native writers.

Only having content free of grammatical errors is not enough to make a good article , the first thing is " Research " which many native's i know do not care about.

So I would rather say that before stating anything on a public forum like this - You should not do stereotyping !

I can very well see the writers portfolio , but how do i make sure that they were written by him ?

Also their already written articles will do no good unless they are able to write well for the niche i am going to hire them for.

There's one or two facile points made in this thread, particularly the question made asking how you know whether a sample article in a writer's portfolio has been written by him; the question being put in support of justifying the reason for asking for a free sample!

If you are given a piece of good writing as a reference and then you place an order and receive an article falling well below standard then guess what? You're not going to pay for it, nor place any further orders. That's fair enough isn't it?

I got mugged for a free sample article by a member here recently. I take the blame myself entirely and won't make the mistake again. Judging by other replies here, other writers are just as wise as I've become (the hard way).
