Hey, my niche looks pretty good and is pretty stable. Some good sites that didn't use to rank high (they're not mine) have come up, so that's good for the users.

Yes, it is. But I was going to do it, update or not. SERPs aren't reliable long term, as I said. SEO also takes too long.

Whether you are doing what G wants to hear or not, there is a point at which the ROI of SEO becomes so small that it's not viable to generate a significant income. In the old days you could turn on Scrapebox, blast once and rank like magic for loads of keywords, with shit content. That's a good ROI. It's getting increasingly difficult. Once my automation tools no longer work, I will not entertain SEO as the ROI would not be worth it for me. My SEO budget for each site is 50 bucks, I get a good ROI with automation. Fuck paying overpriced SEO companies thousands of dollars to do SEO on a site, whether the links are "good quality" or not. This is a business. I don't care about ranking no 1 for my ego, I just want the money.

Similarly, while I do hate Google and Matt Cunts, I wouldn't avoid Adwords just to spite them. If I can get a good ROI from it and make big profits with it, the only loser would be me if I did not use it just to spite Google. (It wouldn't make a difference to them). Furthermore, Google is not the only provider of paid traffic, there are loads of sources.

Some thoughts on this latest Google craziness

The more G can destabilise the efficacy of the SEO industry and its value to business, the more people will be driven back into Adwords. Since Google is an advertising platform this is what they want.

Therefore, its in their financial interests to fuck with us.

They will continue doing so.

It may be a mistake to look for logic in their methods. By doing something completely random, they will succeed in frustrating us and therefore succeed in their goal. See all the posts in this thread where people say they've had enough of SEO. Case in point.

G can't fool about like this for too long however because if they alienate their users by providing shitty results they're lose out big time so this may be a one time act of frustration on their part.

My feeling is therefore:

Hang in there
Don't waste too much energy seeking method in their madness
Never waste a single second listening to anything written or spoken by Matt Cutts
Sit back and build content, watch and listen
Monetise through social media, PPC, etc in the meantime
All will be well in time...

That could be true. But regardless of that, the current search results are absolutely crap, and the complete opposite of a 'user friendly' update. It would simply be a bad business decision to leave them as it were, it just gives bing and yahoo a chance to gain market share.

In fact I was doing a number of searches today looking for information, and decided to compare Google and Bing results. Bing results were much more helpful.

Therefore although Google may be trying to force the PPC upon us, they have actually screwed up their previously user friendly search engine, opening to doors for their competitors to catch up.

I really dont understand these statements about why G would be trying to force PPC upon us or make it more expensive when it is G themselves who decided to ban thousands of advertisers at the expense of losings millions and billions in favor of cleaning up their search results. This doesn't make any sense.

I think what I'm seeing here might be a problem with deep linking. And that's why "thinner" sites survived this better compared to huge sites with hundreds/thousands of pages (and maybe not that much linking done to each page, correct me if I'm wrong). I'm seeing same pattern with my own sites.

Also I've noticed that some of my sites root domains has completely dropped from serps, but some inner pages still ranking (mostly for wrong keywords though and wrong pages, privacy-policy for main keyword for example). Not sure if this means anything, just making observation.

To confirm I am seeing the same thing.
I think IP diversity is a big factor...I was targeting a lot of different pages with keywords for one site...but only the inner pages survived as you mentioned.
