Anyone in N.C. (cigarettes)

A new cigarette tax went into effect here in Wisconsin, cigarettes are up to $5.43 a pack, I know its far worse in many other parts of the country. Does anyone know the laws about exporting cigarettes? I think the online biz is only going to get bigger.

The law says you can't, basically. Cigs like alcohol are taxed by the individual states and shipping cigs from one state to another(interstate commerce)without tax being paid at both the origination and destination is a NO.

Bootlegging cigs is very blackhat NY and California are 2 states with exorbitant prices and there are several others just as bad. The trick is to find a way to sell them online and not get caught. You can obviously forget about using PayPal for this. A lot of shippers won't ship cigs without the tax stamps and all that blah, so you have to disguise that too and hope no one opens it.

I've thought about doing this as I'm in GA where cigs are still cheap(so are guns, but that's the kind of bootlegging that gets u put in jail for very long time). If you could find a main "reseller" in some state and ship them say 20 cartons at a time, it might be worth it. Sure wouldn't want to do it one carton at a time with all the risk.

I was into collecting guns for a while, and you're right, Ive never been anywhere in my life that you could buy handguns in the free newspaper and meet the person in a grocery store parking lot, and its all legal. It's kind of scary actually.

I have also come across bulk smokes with no stamps, and pages of stamps not on smokes, but that was a long time ago, and those aren't the types of people I'm trying to know.

I just know that I'm sick of getting raped on cigarettes and my Mother told me she bought some online, so I saw a potential profit there. It would be best to not smoke at all I guess.

It is perfectly legal for a resident of one state to sell a firearm to a resident of that same state provided that both the buyer and seller are not "prohibited persons" under federal law and that the firearm is legal under both state and federal laws.

Why is it scary? Because there is no checking of who is prohibited to buy or sell the guns, its a phone call and a cash transaction, the guns are then driven up the coast and distributed to any crack selling piece of shit that has the money to buy it. I am a gun owner so I'm not opposed to guns, but I am opposed to how easy it is to obtain one.

OMG that is crazy, sounds like a state that is greedier than Washington state... as that is where i am from. And smokes are like $5.25 a pack here now, and liquor is the 3rd highest priced in the states...

I have looked at some of the places making money on the online smokes thing and the sites look about as shady as one could get. I think you are totally right about that. I was really looking at is as a possible affiliate situation but I dont want to create any sites that might piss off the powers that be.

I looked at the affiliate thang too, and said no way. All I found were unknown people either operating illegally(blatantly too) or those discounted "Indian" cigs that I'm not sure people want or if they are any more legal to ship across the country than regular cigs.

I think the best way to BH this is to sell them out of your trunk locally With some of the big anti-smokers out there, trying to sell them online would probably get you reported by the crusaders in an instant.

What does a carton of smokes there go for right now? As a comparison, in GA a carton of Marlboro reds or Winston goes about $24 at larger convenience chains like QuikTrip.

I know someone that was buying cigarettes online and all of a sudden he got slapped with a tax bill for the unpaid cigarette taxes. I don't know I've been thinking about it especially after seeing $25 cartons on a lot of sites.

Sheesh... I buy two cartons at a time from the grocery store for less than that... Camels, too. 'course, I actually am in NC, so that might explain it.
