Is it even Worth starting a New Niche

With everything google is doing. I have become incredibly reluctant to start a new niche. With all the content I need to write, then make more for tier 1's and then on and on and on I dont think it's smart to start a new niche with hopes to get traffic from google. I find myself sitting at my computer, wondering what the hell Im sps to do. Every search result is filled with either complete shit sites, or Amazon,eBay Wiki etc. I am thinking about just concentrating on Bing/yahoo. But who fucking knows what they want?

I have been debating on using a web 2.0 like angelfire and just blasting the hell out of it with SB gig from fiver. You can put any aff link in angel fire with out problems. Fuck it, That's what Im going to do. Write a one post page selling a weight loss product and just blast the hell out of it. or blast my head open with a gun.

What is everybody doing? Where are you turning for help/answers? I have a great new niche, at least it was great until the first page results turned into Amazon, amazon, ebay, wiki, amazon, ebay, Now I am just lost.

My main money site went up. But I probably lost about 30 #1 rankings in small niche sites. They were unqiue well written content.

This isn't an 'over optimization' penalty, that's just a clever way to disguise what they are doing. This is a "If you aren't a large authority site get the fuck out" penalty.
What happens when Wiki, About.com, Amazon, Ebay, etc are at the top of search engines? It means less smaller business at the top, which means more people spending on adwords to actually get traffic to their site.

very well said. However there must be some way that we can still get our jobs done. Maybe back to the adwords method, IE, fresh site with adwords account, buy adwords voucher from fiver or get one here, site only has a landing page with affil links

But they had a great quarter earnings because of lurking new poop mom and pop shops into their overinflated BS adwords. I had several local business owner I know come to me and inquire about adwords after receiving invitations. They seem to have become a walmart, masses. Look how easy it is to get signed up and their agressive amrketign cam,paigns pushing adwords and other G's services ( yes anti trust issues). Adwords seems to be gaining advertisers at record speeds, sadly most are non experienced and will piss lots of money down the drain.

to me though if I see a niche that has Wikipedia, BBC, About and all those guys first in the results page to me that's good evidence that you've found an undiscovered niche. It seems like Google puts internal pages from the big guys up on the first page if there aren't any dedicated sites servings to subjects... Those sites are always going to be high on the rankings but I look at them like placeholders until dedicated niche sites come and fill those positions.

Google WANT Amazon and the rest to pay for adsense NOT US.

The scenario;

You're a small business - you need to rank for something that is also sold on Amazon.
You see Amazon ranking number one in natural (where people prefer to click anyway FOR FREE}
What do you do?

Well unless your a fecking idiot you just leave it and go and do something else.

Do you really want to bid against a multi billion dollar company that's getting preferential treatment for FREE?
If you do you're as thick as pig shit and twice as stinky.

And why would Amazon bother paying for adsense?
They are already ranking No 1 in natural search (where far more people clikc) FOR FREE

So who the fuck pays for adsense at all in these circumstances then?
The big boys don't have to and the little boys can't afford it against such overwhelming odds.

Could you butt financial shoulders against Ebay, Walmart, Amazon - when they are getting their traffic free?

"Big brother" conspiracy theories are great, and Google are ba$ta&ds that's true, but even they aren't stupid enough to destroy their business model and alienate their visitors with a stunt like this, and if they ARE that stupid - they will be gone inside 6-18 months. I guarantee it.

The thing is, when all the results show Amazon, wikipedia, youtube etc, eventually people will move away from google. If I want to see Amazon results, I go to Amazon, and if I want to see a video, I go directly to youtube. Why use google if that is what you want to see?

Unless google do something about this, I see people turning to other SEs, and I for one will be delighted.

G wants the big companies using adwords, they are the ones who can actually afford it. Most smaller companies have a bigger budgets than all these affiliate marketers too. G has been soft on BH seo for so long, and it's the real companies and brand sites that aren't willing to use BH.

I never really bought into the "G wants to force out the little guy" scheme. The little guy doesn't have money for adwords.

Take action and experiment. Everything changes in SEO, but one constant is somebody will always be #1 in the SERPs, the SEO's job is to be that somebody.

I'm pretty sure Matt Cutts will do something about this whole situation. If he will not people will go to bing, and he knows it. There is no way google will continue this things to happen if people will go to another SE.

Something will change if user experience will go down.

Exactly - Forcing mom and pop sites to pay for adwords against Amazon getting free traffic is not what google want.

Mom and pop can't compete with Amazon on those terms and Amazon don't need to pay a cent - they're ranking free.
Also - that doesn't explain why my tiny crap sites I abandoned years ago all started ranking again today.

This is just another clusterfuck in a long line of clusterfucks.

Sit tight, stop linking - add content instead.
Wait till more is known and then alter linking strategy accordingly.

I never really bought into the "G wants to force out the little guy" scheme.

Then you aren't paying attention to what is happening over the last six months.

Generally what G really wants is a matter of a little bit more complicated analysis. Recently we found out that the investors are not very happy with the profit rate, so for sure the directors has to do something. They are for sure implementing much more complicated scheme that at the end in theory will bring more accounting profit (that's what they want). And those that have some basic economics & business knowledge know that accounting profit could be tricky.

There's no doubt with the relatively weak Facebook at the moment Google hopes that they will attract a decent amount to G+ and so expand further their business. However, their main source of income is Adwords and so they are trying to optimize it further in order to increase the revenues. If we think about it Adwords are best known and pretty much monopolists. I mean if you are a online rookie owning a business you most often go to use the G service. So in theory what G needs is more advertisers but also more relevant display of the ads. Actually everyone making business online will prefer to have 15% CTR and the click to cost 1 Euro rather to 1% and the click to be 15 Euro. I believe this eliminates anomalies and also decrease all kind of risk (however we can argue about the quality of the traffic, but here we assume that it is the same).

Now everyone knows that Adsense is paying the most. If Google decides to stay with this algorithm where small micro niche sites are not favorites at all then the ads displayed will decrease significantly (may be just 2/3% but the effect will be huge). As the less sites to display ads means more competition for the advertisers-->more money for a single click-->more risky & more difficult to make profit. So I believe that this scenario is NOT what Google wants. I know my explanation is not good and sorry about that.
