Second, the solution is really simple for blog networks or other high pr sites; make sure that the articles are unique and written by a human.

would be funny if this backfired on Google and everyone started spamming millions of links a day to their competitors, and whoever could spam more and with the crappiest links gets #1.
My advice: If your sites' rankings have dropped, look at the sites above you in the rankings and see what they're doing that you aren't.![]()
Needless to say I'm surprised it took this long for Google to start discounting blog comments - 99.9999% of those are spam anyways these days.
