Cant understand this. I recently got the #2 spot on Google for "dentist + major city" and im not seeing any traffic. It even outranks the G Places listings! What's up?

what's are the stats from google keyword tool ? Maybe there are not many searches for that, and maybe people find what they are looking for on no. 1

This is going to sound so basic but are you logged out and all that other stuff?

What does google say the search amount is for that?
How long have you been there?

Open up private browsing and (CTRL+SHIFT+N) and then do the search.

It has 1600 exact searches. I did that private browsing thing and my site is on page 5 like it was a week ago. What is that private thing?

Keeps your browsing data private, so sites like google cant track your history and display ads to your personal demographic...

It looks like you're not #2 since you're further down when browsing privately.

Hey people LOVE places...get it there and get feedback and you will see it...I have has sites in BOTH, and places always does better...

Yep. Focus on places. Ive never seen that browsing trick though. thanks for the tip!

Are the 1,600 searches broad or exact? That will make a big difference.

How big is the city? If it is a small city it will not have much if any traffic.

I think Bulkemail is right. People searching for a business now scan the results looking for a business listing right there, without having to click through to a website. Especially with a business you visit in-person, the location of that business is very important to the searcher and with a Places listing Google is providing that info right on the search page.

Maybe create a Places listing and associate it with your existing website, if this fits with your plan.

I think the problem is your Exact search result. If you have a very low Exact search result then you will not get visitors dude. its proved.

Thats the problem - your not actually ranked #2 at all.

Google personalises search results based on your browsing habbits so it has learnt you like that site, hence promoting above others.

The private browsing thing disables all of that and shows you the actual natrual results without personalisation applied.
