I have been reading all over about exact match domain names and some say it matters and other say it does not. I found a few domain names with global searches over 20mil a month... with exact matching available domain names.

I will just do some basic seo, relevant article to the domain name, and an exit splash > clickbank script.

With that manu global searches and an exact match could i expect get get traffic? Or would the domain name not matter at all due to the competition.

thanks

It totally does matters. If you have emd.com and have decent content you will almost definitely hit spot 1.

I have to disagree when you say "ranking #1".
EMD does help you in the search engine rankings because it automatically establishes you as some sort of authority (there are levels of authority) of that topic because the main keyword is placed in your URL compared to a site not having the keyword there. While this will help you rank, for most keywords it won't directly rank you unless it is a low-competition keyword (and usually low traffic).

For example:
Do a search for the keyword "Backlinks".
You can see that backlinks.com is NOT #1 in the rankings. While their EMD does help them rank for that keyword, their domain alone will not rank them.

Because it is a very poor site. Decent content about the topic would definitely help you a lot :)

not just a site with only quality "EMD" Ranks #1
but it is easy to push them to #1
it should be well composed and optimized

For the most part it is just a dummy site that i am making just for adsense. I found a good template online, made it look exactly like a music site. I then put my keyword phrase in the title and description. I found some music articles online and put them in spinchimp. I create a homepage, music, about, news, contact me, and blog page. I then put articles on all of those pages that had to do with music. I made sure to squeeze in my keyword phrase at the beginning and middle of each article. I am gunna gt some more spun articles and put them on the blog. Sound like enough content?

I have an exact match domain and it's not ranking very well at all but this is before link building, so early days.

One reason it could help is that with an EMD any backlinks to your site that use the URL instead of anchor text will automatically have your keywords in anyway. Anyone agree with that?

I've heard emds can have a 5% impact... get the domain that sounds the best if you're looking to ever expand.

does it still cound as a EMD if a character is at the end. Say you are shooting for the "weight loss" keyword. What about www.weightlossz.com?

It is very helpful in my observations when you see that term directly in the domain name. I do a lot of sites for medical doctors and stuff and they usually are doing very well off the keyword domain name. It is much more then 5%, but impossible to quantify. It is likely a sliding exponential portion of the importance of your site. I notice that in keywords that are low competition, say pr2 and under for the first page, it helps a lot. On higher competitive keywords, it will of course help less.

EMD helps you only with that main keyword.

However, for most sites when you hit some decent PR and start ranking for inner pages, most of your traffic will come from longtails, so it doesn't matter much in the long run.

An EMD won't do wonders. They used to rank super easy a couple of years ago. Lately they got devalued a lot by google. They still give you an advantage though as long as you don't use it for a thin MNS of MFA. In other words if you add good and plenty of content and build good links to it, an EMD will provide its share of SEO advantage.
