If you are using only 1 network, and submitting 10 posts to them every day/week/month and hoping to "crush your competition", then NO, blog networks won't work for you. Why? Well, the blogs will be quite similar, so this leaves an easy footprint for Google to find common stuff between YOUR backlinks, and hence penalize you.

YES!

It will work if you bring in diversity, use more blog networks, vary your posts, vary submission time. Why will this work? Because, the blogs in each network will be very different, and so their chances of hurting YOUR site directly will be reduced. Yes, this approach is pretty expensive, but hey, you get what you pay for.

Yes, you can, but again, blog networks are another source of adding diversity to your link profile.

+2. No matter how much you try the truth is that same hundred pages link to same hundred websites and there are so many factors involved. This was just an example. All websites linking to meaningless one-page site with no authority and no past-present-future are the most worthless backlinks you will ever buy.

That business has been hit and ruined. No reason to re-iterate from point 0.

Think about it like Google does, algorithmically. If you penalize a site for one type of link, you would also penalize a Wordpress themes site because most of the links are from Wordpress. You would penalize vbulletin.com because most of the links are from vbulletin sites.

Penalizing 1 type/kind/platform of link doesn't scale in reality. They hit BMR and ALN manually. The footprints are ridiculously stupid and easy to track. In about 10 minutes on the phone with a client, I was able to uncover over 40 sites from ALN. How long do you think it would take Google to track the tokens and unique identifiers? For BMR, all of their sites were private reg, on SEO hosting. Nobody besides blog networks (and people trying to hide), use SEO hosting like that.

Real sites use real hosting, the end. If your blog network is using SEO hosting, you're doomed sooner or later.

Yeah, I totally agree BMR and ALN were taken down manually. Now, once google identifies the network they want to take down, I am sure they have a program to rip through the network and find all the sites, but google does not have a giant algorithm that searches the internet and automatically finds these networks...

SEO hosting does not work to hide a network and I really don't think there is much one can do once google decides to actually target a private network, just hope they don't go after the network you are in...

That's why you have to take every precaution when building out a network. You can't do what worked 6 months ago, BMR and ALN proved that. You have to stay one step ahead, which is why I stopped using ALN and BMR over 8 months ago.

I never thought about the necessity to use different blog networks. It is a good idea, though. I have to diversify more.

It's just about how you use it. ALN and BMR are guilty for letting their users down. They had to spread the links more wisely and have protected their network. Blog posts will always be the best source of backlinks if you can get them, but they aren't as cheap as bookmarking or artilce directory links. The harder link to get, the more valuable it is.

Not really, it's more about the quality of the network. Even if you used ALN and BMR effectively, you still lost a lot of links. The way you used it is irrelevant since the networks are going down or are dead.
