As I understand it the name of the game is to create good content for tier 1 properties and then use those as a buffer for blasting weaker links to them rather than directly to the money site. In theory the link juice will flow down to the money site and that should in theory lead to a rise in rankings.
Now as far as blog posts are concerned I believe the name of the game is auto approved blogs for quick link building with hand picked niche orientated high pr blogs manually posted to the money sites.
So my question lies in the relevance of blog posts sites. I'm of the opinion that anything linking to your main site should be high quality, high relevance links. Good original content on a number of web 2.0 properties and backed up with highly spun content on article directories, wikis, press releases, social bookmarks and wpmu sites also help being relevant to build up related keywords using tier 1's, 2's and 3's which I guess you would call pyramids.
But in terms of blog posts, forum links, guestbooks and image sites how relevant niche wise do they need to be?
Is it fine to just pick up a large auto approve list of niches across the board and just go to town adding links galore to the first and outer tiers? What about link velocity?
So in a nutshell speed and relevance are playing on my mind.
I'm asking these questions because I've not actually bothered building any of these lower links to get page one rankings. Good content on high pr sites with embedded links has been enough to do quite well but as I understand it link diversity doesn't hurt any and is mean't to be the smarter route to take.
The only thing is from what I have read you can land yourself in some hot water if you are not careful with some serious link building.. However it would be nice to know that adding links from any niche website works perfectly well and has no baring on rankings. Certainly would cut down the time drastically in building a blog to go master list that I could use on any client's site.
I'm thinking life isn't that easy though but I'm not sure in any case. I'm in it for the long haul and want to stay page 1 indefinitely rather than jumping up and dropping a week later, especially when it comes to dealing with client's sites.
Any thoughts?
