Ideas for getting offline clients

Hey guys,

nice to join the forum, ive seen some awesome stuff so far on here. I provide SEO services such as gaurenteed page 1 in 20 days for websites. The only issue is getting clients, we are focusing on getting offline customers currently, but we just cant seem to find anyone interested.

We have tried cold-calling, email marketing and a few other methods but have only had a few initial sales. Do any of you work with offline clients? If so how do you find people willing to pay for your service?

I can't tell much, but here is what I adopted.
In the starting of my career, I don't have much resources and money to invest (Not able to hire BD), so I target my local market. I make a list of all big businessman and small-middle-big showrooms in my town. Than I check which of them have site and which don't, plus how many of them are really using their website. I visited every one of them and explained how website can be beneficial and what changes can SEO make. This way I got good business for both, web development and SEO.
Plus I am still getting discounts on my general use products

The problem you have is that most people you contact locally do not really have much internet or computer knowledge. What happens when you start explaining seo to them you can see their eyes start rolling back in their heads as you confuse them.

What I do is rank sites for local terms and then rent out the space on the site. Lets say you rank a site for "your city plumbers" You get the site to #1 and then go visit the local plumbers and show them the site and explain that they can have their company on the #1 site starting today for the low monthly fee of $$???. It is simple, it is an easy sell and you get a reoccurring income. It is a much easier sale than trying to explain what you can do for them in the future and you can do this for just about every business type you have in your city.

@volund, nice idea but there are 2 flaws:

1. Scaling this method is hard and will take a lot of resources
2. You take the risk (you invest money, time upfront)
3. You can't rent this property to more than one business (#1 also)

Volund, very very nice idea... I tried to implement that in my business plan, but the people in my country don't spend money on online marketing. I have to use some friends I have abroad to get me clients (not that easy).
Michael Lee, try to go and push some offers or flyers to your accountant, so those can be passed along to the companies your accountant handles.. That's a really massive client base you have access to, easily.

Do you guarantee that the site will stay at #1?
