DO NOT TRY THIS

first thing you need...
a series, tv or anime
you need a torrent of it that was ripped from tv, specifically one that has some commercials still in the video

an advanced video editing tool (adobe aftereffects is fine)

a short 30second-1minute commercial for your product
step by step do this...
step1 find episodes that did not have the commercials removed completely
step2 run the video for those through a film grain and static removal filter
step3 splice in your ad right before the commercials that were not completely removed
step4 run a film grain and static adding filter (that way the broadcast filmgrain and static matches your video and it's insertion is undetectable)
step5 upload torrent and enjoy the effects of your new advertisements

I have seen a few other threads in this section
that recommend content locking the last 2-5 minutes of a movie, with an image inserted into the video.
the only difference is that the technique I outlined actually tries to cover up what it is doing
the other is just blatantly doing it without regard for subtlety or guile
.

DO NOT TRY THIS
You Will Go to Jail
(eventually)
remember, the internet never forgets.

People don't do this because it is illegal and a serious copyright infringement to promote your stuff within offering that type of media and the feds across the board will crack you in the head and drag you away in one of those famous, shiny black vehicles everyone is so fond of these days.

Not that it isn't a great idea from a monetary gains standpoint, it isn't the best thing to do from a practical legal perspective.

Food for thought.

the reasoning here was flimsy at best, and has been removed to keep people from rationalizing a foolish move

it's not legal, and definitely not moral, don't anyone ever do this and say it's because i told you to
but it sure would work well

It's one thing to torrent a movies just for the sake of sharing, and it's another thing to do what you thought of. And many people had this idea, I'm sure of that, but wonder again why nobody really tried it. It's simple OP, think :)

Setting aside the copyright issues....

you might want to just splice it in the beginning.
such as this torrent was brought to you by "Monk13 super CPA offer"
and show a short clip of your stuff...

then play the original video in it's original state.

Could be a great method to get people to fill out relevant CPA offers or a video site with content locker, but copyright would be a huge issue imo. They could easily follow those links in the advertising and find out who's behind this. I doubt you could mimic a high-budget tv/movie commercial.

Still would have the smae issue, as anything that you profit from, by attaching it to the content itself is what you'd be in trouble for...it is making money through offering their primary/base content. Having anything that makes money attached to it would be infringement, no matter how you cut it...short of having a legal licensing agreement for use of their content for expressed monitary gains...which is the whole point.

This loops you right back to the copyright issues.

that would be why you take precautions to ensure your video artifacts match the broadcast's artifacts
there is no way they can know whether or not your ad ran during a potential rebroadcast of that show
since cable and satellite providers can insert their own localized ads into a certain percentage of the adspace of any given show and since any given show that is over 5 years old is likely to have been broadcast on a minimum of two channels, and across hundreds of providers, the only way for the content owner to prove you did not have legitimate rights to advertise during that show's run would be to prove that your video was inserted into the shared vid

which is why you run a noise clearing filter through the video, and maybe even run a de-interlace
then add your vid
then run interlace filter and a film grain and noise adding filter

now all the video has the same noise fingerprint

burden of proof is on prosecution, to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that you never paid to have that ad in a broadcast of that show

they'd have to subpoena records from every content provider in the world, and then even still the recordings of what comcast showed in nashville compared to what it showed in san antonio do not exist
the master for the show does but not a recording of the whole thing

the whole case would be too long, difficult to prosecute and costly for anyone to bother with, sure, you might get a threat, but to that you respond "what? someone out there is sharing my ad in your show? should i thank them or are you requesting my assistance in prosecuting them? i'm quite happy with people sharing my ad, good luck on catching the guy who is sharing your show"

Sincerely, best of luck with that point of view. no offense here but, you are WAY off the right track with this one. For your own safety of personal freedom, leave it as an ' idea ' and don't further influence anyone to be okay with this and try it and risk their's either.

This one is a serious issue and your lack of understanding of the topic clearly shows. Again, this isn't personal or meant to offend you but, it is offensive to me that you'd post information that could tempt someone to put him/herself in harms way by your post suggesting it being " okay to commit a criminal act " and follow it up with " by the way, don't do it because I said so...it's your head on the chopping block if you do/don't. "

Be more responsible than that and help the forum members, bro. it is hard enough to filter through what works and doesn't without posts like this adding to it.

WARNING!!!

As a warning to anyone thinking about remotely using this " method " - DON'T!!! It will get prosecuted, it will go to trial and you will go to jail...just remember that little warning at the beginning of any dvd/video, not to mention the fact in part as to why megashare is out of commission.

This is a great concept but, the real world legal system clearly has it as a criminal act...not underground, not blackhat and not bending the rules...Criminal Act = Permanent Life Changing Damages.

it was a thought experiment, nothing more, it's not a method i'd be foolish enough to use
in fact
i would strongly recommend that nobody, ever try this
you can get in deep deep trouble, the potential payout is so far below the risk you can't even see the difference between it and the bottom of the graph

actually, there is one last thing that must be pointed out here

i have seen a few other threads in this section
that recommend content locking the last 2-5 minutes of a movie, with an image inserted into the video
the only difference is that the technique i outlined actually tries to cover up what it is doing
the other is just blatantly doing it without regard for subtlety or guile

I think you answered your idea why nobody does it. A few grain filters isn't going to protect you from the goliath that is the movie industry.

lol I thought this was a pretty entertaining read. Thought experiments are fun. Thanks op and thanks Aftershock.

There are ways to run a legal movie site but I'm not giving away my method.

Funny idea! But I think creating a decent TV advertisement for your product is going to cost a lot of money.

It's not a real TV ad lol. You could just use fiverr or make a simple one on your computer.

Only way this would work is if you have an offshore, and non .com/.net/other Verisign tld's, site claiming to have more content like the upload and add content lockers to the site itself.

oh boy...
...opening a thread that says "why does nobody do this?" - that just contains dangerous info and then the OP steps away and says: "i would never do his and know that it shouldn`t be done. so DON`T DO THIS" is really by far the most useless stuff being around here or a long time.

...saying "it was a thought experiment" makes it look even more of a childish excuse. a thought-experiment" that you know the answer too.

...pretty much making sense.

...please MOD`s - listen to the OP and take this down.
