I want to register a domain and would prefer if people couldn't whois me. Is that possible?

If you buy through Google their domains are $10 with private registration included (they just use GoDaddy), I think Namecheap is similar. Otherwise most registrars offer private whois for an additional fee.

Yes, it is possible.

Namecheap does this for free, you just have the select the option.

just use namecheap I bought a domain the other day and got free whois guard with my domain to prevent people from seeing my info when doing a whois search on my domain names

Buy a Whois Guard, it's going to cost you only $2-3 I think. Use Namecheap as registerer and while checking out they would provide you an option. 1st year whois guard is free.

For private domain registration I'd also suggest you go for namecheap.com
Godaddy is a great registrar but you'll be charged almost the same price as the actual domain just for the whois protection.

You can sometimes get free vouchers for private registrations with Godaddy. Those work well.

depends on the domain too, if for example, you was to buy a co uk or eu and you register as a private person they don't show your details... details only show for a company or organisation

I think if you display ads you may class as a company or organisation, not 100% on that one

I bought 4 eu from name(com) and 1 eu from godaddy and both displayed all my info, i emailed both reigstrars & eurid.eu to get this info removed and name.com managed it within 24 hours, godaddy i'm still waiting on..

Better to buy domain names from bulletproof hosters who provide domain services. Your domain gets bullshit name that is the same for 1000's of other domains

This is what I was doing but it looks like namecheap is the place to go. I will have to check it out.

I use a paid vpn service for my IP address, so that's sorted I think. I've not heard of VCC before but I'll look into it.
