Here is an insiders update on the network deindexing issue going on right now. Feel free to comment or ask questions in here so we can get a discussion going.

Build My Rank
- Private network (All sites are theirs, possible footprint)
- Highest quality articles. Each had to pass copyscape and make sense.
- They announced yesterday that they were hit in a major way, some people claiming 100% deindexing.

Article Links Network
- Public network (The sites aren't theirs. Small/no footprint)
- Spammed to death. Blogs would get tons of posts a day, would accept junk content.
- They announced that they've lost more than 1/3 of their 15,000+ sites.

Private Network Owner "J"
- Fully private network of over 2000 sites. Only he posted on the network.
- Content was average quality.
- Lost 90% around a month ago.

As "J" lost his network, we compared notes. Our network was staying alive while his was getting destroyed. As it turns out, we were both using SEOHosting.com. We both had multiple servers with them and we noticed that his servers were getting taken down one by one. We had overlap with him on one server, and that server had around 50% deindexing for us. That day we moved hosting and locked things down and everything has been great for a month.

He did everything right with his network footprint, just like we did. The networks were as invisible to bots as they could be. Dynamic HTML and CSS. Spun privacy policies and nav titles. Varying OBL and pagination. Even diverse name servers. But what we found was that all of our sites resolved into SEOHosting IP space. So even though they have a bazillion IPs, that is a probable footprint.

That tells me that from the nameserver IPs, Google knew the sites to look and (probably) stuck all sites in that IP range into manual review. That explains how they were walking down his servers day by day as he watched.

At the same time, look at ALN which doesn't share these same characteristics at all. I haven't looked at their code, but I suspect they had little to no footprint because each site was owned by different individuals. The fact that 1/3 of their network has been hit tells me that this is a totally manual unraveling of their network. Someone is taking the time to take them down.

What are the lessons learned?
- Be as diverse as ALN with IPs and hosting. Make it hard on Google to trace out the network.
- Keep the networks as closed as possible. Make smaller networks to diversify risk.
- Continue diverse link building. Putting all eggs in one basket is risky, as we've seen.
- Article quality makes zero difference in the network staying alive.

In the end, what does this mean? How long until Google moves on to more important things like actually making search better? What happens when someone decides to make a product around attack based SEO (which we've tested extensively and proved is possible a year ago)? Who knows...

We're in it for the long haul with you, though...

Thanks. Enjoyed reading the article. I just hope the owner of Highprsociety would comment in his own thread.

Yup, that's very true. Hiding it from the users is the entire point. User submitted spam reports have been rumored to be behind the nuking of many sites. Seeing what has happened over the past several weeks has us being more cautious now. We did show link reports for the first 6ish months.

Show me a single article directory that would actually pass manual review. Even Build My Rank's "high quality" stuff fails easily.

I have two people on my staff who work for Leapforce. In case you didn't know, that's the Google manual review team. So I'm well aware of how sites are categorized, spammed, etc. That's why we do things the way we do, both with content quality (or lack thereof) and underlying HTML spin.

We all generally fall under the radar of Google. If they really wanted us gone, we'd all be shut.

Did they warn you that you were going to loose 50%+ of you network. I smell BS.

Check your E-mails. I just got an update in my inbox with what's going on. It removes speculation and states facts.

Yea no more speculation... 80% of my links are gone and now I have to pay more for each link... sweet!

Leapforce isn't a corporation with weekly meetings on who's network is getting nuked lol. They are individuals who work from home, they are trained to manually review sites and flag spam. (This knowledge of what they consider spam and how a manual review process works is what Justin is talking about) They make NO decisions, nor are they informed of what happens with the sites reported as spam.

They report, it goes up the chain and some one at GOOGLE decides what to do then. You can sign up for leapforce yourself, they will teach you everything and then you take a test, if you pass it...you'll officially work for Googles as well, if you fail it...then you'll at least be trained on what Google considers spam and how manual reviews work.

SO.... they didn't let you know that 80%+ of your network was going to be taken down in a day?

I know you guys are closed to new clients, but I was just wondering, how much did you charge for high PR homepage links?

You guys need to open your eyes... these chumps had all their sites on one hosting account.... are those the type of people you are going to trust to help you rank your sites... The only networks that even have a glimmer of hope to survive are privately own and those that have sites donated by the public.... and they may have trouble keeping their heads above water.

seems these networks would be better of rethinking their purpose and market themselves as the ultimate competition killer.

"Improve your rankings by killing your competition!"

And there is a the elephant in the room...

Most of my links are gone, all it needs is a token adding or finding one site, i have one pr4 link sat there on a deindexed domain great!

me too.. I have tell one of HPS staff but he is do nothing.. HPS makes me lose my money, time, ranking and everything..

I think everyone needs to calm down, You need to understand that it was not just HPS that got hit hard recently, it was most all of the networks, And all this happen 30 days ago. And you need to understand that most of the networks have backup domains, but when your dealing with hundreds of domains it can take time to get things back in order and cleaned up. Now if this is going on for 90 days Then I can see everyone's point. But I have had good ranking movement for mid-compt keywords even recently as of 5 days ago and I have only been using HPS article posting, Business Catg... And yes some of my other sites took a nose dive, But I am willing to give the guys at least another 30-40 days before I leave HPS...

Just try to understand they have their hands full at the moment, and they want it fixed faster then we do because they earn more money and that is what we all want.... So give Justin and the other staff time to repair this problem...

Nope... Leapforce doesn't work that way.

I'll spare you the loooong description, but they have a very, very detailed review handbook that talks about looking for hidden links (font, css, javascript), ghost sites, spam sites, MFA sites, etc.

The decision of what to do with their collected data happens way,way above that paygrade.

My point is none of the current networks would survive a manual review.

If you don't know what you speak of, don't spout untruths. This is a straight up lie and makes you look like an idiot.

We had at least a dozen different server accounts spread across hundreds of IPs and three different hosting companies.

The deindexing is a systemic issue that has hit every single network owner. It wasn't due to some footprint or mistake. It was due to Google looking in the direction of SEOs and smacking us around a bit.

It happens once or twice every year to different segments of the space. Networks were last hit about 2 years ago.

Once you've been in the game a while, you'll realize the sky really isn't falling. We're "black hat" SEOs and pay the consequence on occasion. The good news is it'll wash out a bunch of the less serious SEOs making more room for the dedicated ones.

Not sure what you want us to do... Dropping rank could be due to any number of factors including any other link building you've done OR overoptimization of the links you're building with HPS. I've not seen a case of a site deindexing causing a penalty - the worst I've seen is someone going back to where they were before the links.
