Tech wizards help.(broadcam wlan 802.11g)

I read on the forums that a wireless connection can easily change ip's. I don't know if i am eligible in this situation. My pc came installed with a wireless broadcom 802.11g card, its a wlan card. Its kinda wierd has a antenna on the outside of my desktop tower lol. I never bothered using it since i have cable modem. When i try to use wireless networks it says nothing in range, yet with my labtop i find several and also pickup a wifi network in my house(same room.) Anyone know what i can do to help my pc find these networks? Very confused thanks.

You cant change your public IP from a wifi card, they were probably talking about aircards which are basically wireless modems. You can change your local IP on a wifi card behind a router but not your public IP. If you are using cable, you can usually change your public IP by changing your MAC address. See below:

no worries mate, make sure your ip actually does change though, I use ipchicken.com to check
