How necessary are proxies for most techniques?

How necessary are proxies for most techniques here at bhw? Are you all using proxies for just about everything you do or is it not completely necessary. Example: If I'm IMing people for e-whoring, should I be hooking up my IM client to a proxy?

nah, basically anything related to your affiliates or offers, for example if you have two accounts with cj then you would delete cookies and change proxies between logging from one into the other

I'm not using proxies much, but only because I can force my ISP to give me a new IP whenever I want one.

You'll need them if you want to appear to be coming from a different city/country though. I'm in a major US city (with a big available IP address pool) so I haven't had to worry about that yet.

yeah, and if you are using a DSL/cable modem, if you just switch your mac and restart it will give you a new IP at most providers.

Most routers (and some computer NICs) let you change the MAC to whatever you want. I do this though my Netgear router that's connected to my cable modem, by logging into the router's web GUI thru Firefox on my desktop.

I wrote up what I do on this thread, there's a lot of info there from me and others that should help you out (including ways to do it without a router).
