Cheapest way to start a site with NO experience?

I want to start my own site.. tho I've got writers block, can't think of a dang thing to come up with.. and I'm not very artistic at all. But this is something I've always wanted to do, even if I don't make money. My goal is just to hopefully get traffic, and steady traffic on a daily basis. If I can do that at least, even with no money, I will be satisfied.

That bring me to my question. Sense I've never done ANYTHING like this before.. what would be the cheapest way for me to at least screw around with this? I've heard rumors some people give out free domains? Mainly .info? Also, are their any free hosting solutions and can you put word press on it? I have no experience with that either. lol I may be terrible and clueless but I do have the drive, passion, and willpower so any help or tips or points in the right direction would be much appreciated

You are going to have to spend SOME money, and your site is going to have to be about something.

Even to do this badly, you need hosting, a domain, and content...

Or just mosey over to wordpress.com (free)and build a blank blog (free) if that's all you want to do. Not going to get much traffic to a blank blog.
 
I hate this question, but since you are unlike most others and admit it to be a hobby and not to make a million dollars (hope not, because with this question, you will not.)

You can get a free domain name from Intuit. Assuming you have a credit card, you can go to http://www.wisconsingetonline.com (or most other states have Google Get Online programs also, check if your state does and you won't have to lie.)

Just click "Get my free site" or whatever, the big red button... Register with a Wisconsin address and you will get a free domain name (CC info is required to verify, but will not be billed.) If you do not have a CC, go get a free VCC from EntroPay and register it with an address from whatever state you chose.

You don't have to put money into the account, just use the CC# they'll give you after you activate the account. Tell them you're from Iranighanistan and you want to add money from your bank called "ASDGFjiohsdgkajnsdf." They will not ask any questions straight away and you'll get a CC#.

Use this (empty) CC to pay the $0 bill from Intuit, you will have your domain tomorrow.

As for hosting, I don't necessarily suggest free hosting unless you want to just keep your name away from whatever is on the site. However, when I want to do that, I use http://www.3owl.com It's free, you get actual hosting options (MySQL, CPanel, etc.) and they do not place advertisements on your pages.... They do add Analytics, boohoo. It's free. :)
 
Thanks will have to look into that. Tho the site for my state isn't out yet. Guess the figure rednecks don't use computers:eek:

But yea I'm just looking for something to practice on.. and go from there. Is WP**c.o.m** And WP**o.r.g.** the same platform? I've seen youtube tutorials on how to use WP but thats for your own website.. curious if their free blogsite is the same design method?
 
Blogger..its free..cant get cheaper than that..then you can learn to add modules.

Yep, same CMS basically

I would suggest just tossing down like $20-$30 for a domain and a year of hosting.
 
WP is not a CMS. It is a blog.


Big difference.

hey man i ve seen some of your latest posts lately and i can really tell when your posts start getting all messed up , i didnt know though it was cause of no sleep. Can i ask you , how do you do it with no sleep, what kind of pills do you take . ITs amazing that you are able to stay up this late without sleep.
 
Purchase a MNS for $30 or so from the BST section. Most of them come very basic but will get the "startup" process done with. Then you can turn that basic MNS into a legit mini-authority site if the keyword is right. This will give you all the experience you need for a very low cost.
 
Theres always a starting cost of things, but you can always move your stuff to from a free wordpress site to a paid hosting.


Just know sooner or later your going to have to pay at least hosting & domain.
 
Thanks for all the replies and helpful advice. I know eventually ill need to fork out the dough but for now wanted a cheap way to sort of play around with things and learn as I go I guess. It all seems so stressful being a noob. Lots of info in this business that's for sure
 
I started of with blogger and i have learned a lot from it but i also have some experience with HTML and other programming languages.
 
I've tried a couple of blogs in the past from blogger, tho they didn't really look professional or anything:farmer: and the traffic was super low.. and one blog I think was more informative and could of got decent traffic if I knew what I was doing.. but I'm clueless there.

But I guess I should be asking if there's any free tools to play around with and maybe try out and get my self familiar with to either try to increase traffic.. or help me find better keywords for my niche/content. Then when I get the hang of that and understand things better, I can start planning my real content for a legit site instead of a free blog. Any suggestions?
 
From my experience of using free websites is useless, i didn't know that we can sell the website later and the blog that i setup for free on those free website have Google PR 1. It would be better if i bought a domain name and web hosting for it so that i can resell it later. Now i am using Wordpress and i think it is the easiest one to use, almost the same like Blogger.
 
Cheapest and quickest way is :

1) Buy Hosting/Use Free Hosting
2) Install Wordpress Using Fantastico
3) Download a free theme from wordpress and install
4) You are ready and good to go.

Now configure your website as you want, add contents, picture and videos.
 
If you just want to start a simple site. You might just want to register at wordpress or blogger which is free and when the site becomes bigger you can think of hosting it yourself.

One more question that's kinda related to this topic but not really.

I was thinking of making a site that offered watermarking your content for free and having a CPA locked that section

1. Do you think that's a good idea and would it be something people are interested in? I'm kind of iffy on it because watermarking pictures is really easy.. but videos you need to have some decent software (which I have)

2. Are their any tools to research this niche? Like to see the competition.. and give me some keyword suggestions for this?

3. Same a #2. But, if I decide NOT to go with that niche, is there a tool I can use to find some good niches?

I would agree with that - start free and easy, something like wallpapers, gain some experience. If you you'll get a good traffic and potential to earn - move it to a paid hosting, buy domain etc
