Noob qestion about websites buidling

Hey guys,

Been lurking around the forums enjoying the posts and reading some great information. In fact it was that information that has enabled me to land a job. I know I can hear a lot of people groaning now "why is a newbie posting in here when he should be getting on with the job". I do have experience in IM I know exactly how to optimize the site, what customers i am going to target and (more importantly) have done plenty of research on keywords

It's just they have had someone before me come in and set up a shitty flash website which looked pretty but wasn't optimized at all so i am trying to fix that up. Right now I have access to the Cpanel (took a couple of days and I will be changing the password eventually) but i just want to install a wordpress site and I am unsure how to get rid of the old one. I was thinking that if I just get rid of the database and basically wipe all the old data then i can start it as if I am setting up a brand new site (which I have plenty of experience in) but I am worried that might have a negative impact in google's eyes....then again it's just ranking for exact domain no specific keywords so maybe I am over thinking things. What do you guys think?

Going from flash to WP is a good move that Google will reward. If the site is in flash, there probably isn't any content online anyway. I had a local photographer and the only thing the search engines could find was:

"Copyright 2011"

Taking your website to WordPress is a lot better for SEO. I would suggest you build a wordpress site on a subdomain for example:

sub.domain.com

then once you have finished it just the way you want, delete the flash content and upload the wordpress stuff to the main root. Google for ways to make this happen, ton of info out there.

remember to backup before making drastic changes to your sites!

Don't worry about the flash site, it will barely be ranking. Sooner it goes the better. Wipe over it:

Step 1. Create wordpress site. Doesn't need to be perfect, just make sure it's okay.
Step 2. FTP > Backup, then delete the flash site.
Step 3. Upload Wordpress site onto your root folder.

Just working through it now. The site wasn't ranking for anything but the domain so I reckon as soon as I get some quality content up and do a bit of back linking the site might actually see visitors, quite literally there were no visitors to the website at all, oh well it just makes what I am going to do look even more awesome
