where to get best and cheap reseller hosting?
I found bluehost as cheap reseller plans need advice?

I use Surpass Hosting for my reseller accounts.

Companies will be inclined to do business with you because of the local benefit, assuming you're offering some kind of technical support and have time to meet in person when problems arise. You could include that in your monthly charge or do a per-visit fee.

If you're not offering web design, the only way to get leads (unless you know people who are looking for a host), is to contact people who already have websites. What I would do is focus on cost reduction benefits, such as targeting sites using Go Daddy and their site creation tools because that could run up to $20/month or more for them when you could offer it at half the price with better support.

I don't think many BHW people know about or use Surpass. I chose them after a ton of research. Look for reviews of HostDime and Surpass. Same company, but Surpass has no phone support, hence the lower prices. Their help desk and online chat are great though.

In my job I'm always meeting people coming to me for web sites and hosting and a couple days ago decided to try and do something more effective about this - I set up a 'hosting' website set but as this is all pretty new to me, could use some advice. I used to just refer people via affiliate link for a little chunk, but realized I might be able to make much more reselling.

I have a pretty narrow market, though it's pretty large, and a good competitive edge, so I'd love some qualified advice on this. I'm going in to do some small business mentoring as well in the next couple weeks concerning this. The website looks pretty professional, but plans and packages and how to go about referring people or saying that I'm hosting them, when it's really Surpass or Hostgator, I'm a little confused.

I guess the best way to get a feel for what reseller hosting is is to see it in action - take a look at mine at http://hosting.ink2pixel.com/

It can be confusing at first to understand how it works behind the scenes because there are a bunch of systems at work here.

Let's start with the basics. When you go to my site, you can buy a domain, purchase a hosting package, etc.

In the background, I have a reseller account with Surpass (options viewable on their reseller page). Out of the allotted space, my site runs on a small portion of it. The rest of my allotted space is distributed to clients who need hosting. So if I have 50 GB of space and 5 TB of bandwidth, my site runs on 5 GB of space and I believe 20 GB of bandwidth. The rest can be sold to your clients.

What you see when you visit my site is a platform called WHMCS, or "Web Host Manager Complete Solution." It manages everything from the packages you can sell (you can set your own package size with features, space, bandwidth, and price), site template, client management, revenue prediction, support desk system, payment gateways, etc. This is hosted on your portion of your reseller server.

WHMCS connects to a feature in your cPanel called WHM, or "Web Host Manager." This is where you can set up the technical details of your system, such as the nameservers your clients use (your nameservers are ns1.yourdomain.com and ns2.yourdomain.com). Other than that, there isn't much you need to do in WHM. WHMCS talks with WHM automatically and creates client accounts for you after payment has been received.

Everything your clients see will be through your site. They can access their own cPanel, manage their domains, etc. through yourdomain.com. The backend system talks to Surpass or your other host for you without your clients ever having to do business with anyone but you.

I love it. I love the possibilities and potential. I feel like I'm years too late, reading some of the threads and articles I read last night via Google on the subject, but I still see alot of potential with my target market and pre-existing contacts I have.

I have my website up and running... But it's a false front. Packages and services and about us is all there, it's just not connected to anything. So I'm definitely interested in hearing about these easy background management solutions. I think I'm OK on the front end...to start, anyway.

Honestly I'd planned on starting this with Hostgator after all the reading I'd done last night. I know the best reseller host for your business depends on your needs...but being at the point I am, with no real knowledge of this going in... Picking the general consensus option of Hostgator feels safe. ;-)

Not discounting what you're saying about Surpass at all... The lack of phone support doesn't bother me, I don't mind talking to my clients on the phone and dealing with the host company through a quality IM/live chat service...

I'm definitely torn - and I'm also looking to start this off as a single Dad, in college. So you can see the financial situation. ;-) So I don't want to say I want to start "cheaply," because you get what you pay for... But cost efficient. Financial risk minimized. Etc. ;-)

I went with Surpass because I got a lot more for my dollar, mainly as far as bandwidth.

I also like Surpass because when I take on a bigger client, their dedicated servers are cheap enough that I can literally double the price, still stay competitive, and make 100% profit. Without phone support, of course.

I guess it's really just a choice of what your gut says to do. With both companies, and pretty much every other reseller service for that matter, you will get the billing solution for free (WHMCS) and a domain reseller account for free so you can get started with an all-inclusive monthly price.

I do have several big clients I believe I could pick up, and as a result a good amount of lesser sign-ups. So I need someone who can scale with me for sure.

About the WHMCS - I noticed your site has a 'powered by whmcs' type brand in the footer. Is that something you have to keep, pay extra to remove, etc? I'm hoping for something in the background, invisible behind the existing site I have. Well, as close to transparent as possible. I'm not going to hide how my business operates to my clients, reselling isn't exactly cooking meth, LOL.

I've never looked into the branding options, but since they give you a free lifetime copy, I'm assuming it would cost extra to remove. I haven't actually looked at the code though. I'm sure it's a simple matter of hiding the footer with HTML/CSS since you get complete control.

I was just curious.

I'm excited about this. I've been working up a business plan, reading about hosting, and finishing two client websites. Three, if you count hooking up this hosting template for my own use.
