Guide to Google penalties recognition and removal 2012

Still eagerly awaiting a reply to this. We all know your busy schedule, EW. But its worthwhile waiting for excellent advice. Just awaiting your opinion on this before I begin.

Thanks.

www or without www are two different urls. You can forward one to another and build links on both but if you havent redirected one to another, I think its better to build links using only one.

If you need more info about that search for canonical urls.

Definitely vary the keywords. But you can't go wrong with a naked anchor (thats the technical term for what you call "raw URL"). you can also mix in your company name, state, and generic anchor texts such as "click here" and "here".

i believe that anchor text matters less and less everyday.

Does the edu links matter if they are forum profiles or blog comments? Should I still use raw URL for these or use a wide variety of keywords?

I would say thank you but i dont think that a thank you would be enough for the information provided. 10x

@ExtraWinner - You had said about Private Blog Networks that if you use these "it could meant that blog network got de-indexed"

I noticed that a service that I use submitted my site to 60 Private Blog Networks and when checking these urls in Scrapebox 38 of them came back as "Not Indexed".

If your site is being submitted to 38 Non-Indexed Private Blogs - Could this be why I got the Penalty?

It could - but those are easy to remove - just build some quality backlinks and then change a bit your onsite meta (whenever you change them Google is likely to re-value your website). Never stop building backlinks when under penalty - if serious - build quality backlinks.

Is it a good idea to vary the raw URL as well? For instance {http://www.domain.com|http://domain.com|www.domain.com|domain.com}

I always put just one option (http://domain.com - if you use www then http://www.domain.com) and this works for me perfectly - I dont think Google is as advanced to have this included in any of its latest updates.

I would use forum profiles over blog comments - blog comments are good as a support for your SEO but *edu/gov* forum profiles are much more powerful (the best = signature link when posting within forum).

Thanks EW for this valuable post !

No problem

Will appreciate your reply on my post on second page...

I will below - just need to find it.

EW, hope you still remember us here.

Yeah, freaking swarmed with work last few days.

This is what work for me - so I will go for option to post only true url to your site.

Well anchor wont have less value as much as backlinks created will - it is just really hard lately to find quality backlink sources - everything worthwhile seems to be spammed pretty badly...
We need to keep new link building techniques off of the mainstream. It looks like exploits are becoming big these days...

1) What do you mean by these? Do you mean website evaluation sites? Similar to aboutus.org? There are some tools which run your url through thousands of sites...

2) Can you recommend effective link building methods for a penalized site? I can take as much manual work as I can.

3) I am thinking doing: Press Releases, Web 2.0 (Tier 1, manually, most of those are not in Senuke database), guest posts, video / pdf submissions, article submissions... more ideas? Of course I would like not to pay much, I just can't afford.

4) Yes, these questions sound noobish, but today I just don't know what to do.

1) Yeah, this is it. Just dont run it through too many sites - few thousands is more than enough.

2) Bookmarks (mass and manual - there are exchange bases for bookmarks if you want best results and most diversity)
Signature links in posts on valuable forums (tbh I find Warrior Forum and other legit IM and business forums best for this job)
Header links on authority sites
Anything related to YouTube (profile urls and comments)

3) Good Plan - as long as its random (link building) you are winner.

4) No worries - everyone needs a help sometimes!

C3) You are on position 1 when you search for your domain name.

Now I am experiencing this right now on the website I have been putting all of my finances and effort for past few months so it`s really stressful and depressing for me.

All of the keywords went from 2-9 (my unique domain name w/o .com as well) to positions to 40-65. I don`t know what`s wrong cause I have a lot of unique/helpful content, 10+ link types, ~100 anchors, raw anchors, etc. Some people say that it`s that "-50 penalty" but your post keeps me believing that it`s just a dance. Maybe there is something more I can do besides your mentioned tips and adding quality links/content? Thank you.

Great post! I've been waiting for something like this for both my own benefit and to get some of the repetitive SEO questions being asked here out of the way.
I'm even going to bookmark this for future reference. :p
Thanks + rep given.

Same exact thing for me. Happened 2 weeks ago from tomorrow. Sucks so bad...

There are few ways to deal with this.
In last few days Google is really hitting on all BH sites that are using Webmaster Tools and Analytics.
Do you have them?

No, I have been working on my website from it`s roots using only firefox, I have never either logged into my google account during that time. The website is 3 months old only so I hope that it`s a dance....I have been building 30-40 backlinks daily so it can not be a lack of consistency either. So what are the ways to deal with it? Thanks a million.

I know this sounds dumb, but will using google chrome have any negative effects?

There is no proof of that and some people might even call it being paranoid but in my opinion you can not be too careful with google...especially when they have products like very user-friendly looking 'google toolbar' in their portfolio which is more or less a spyware tool.

What kind of backlinks?

I dont have such a information. I wouldnt been surprise they are harvesting some data off Chrome - but it will be more likely used for Advertising and targeting rather than SEO.

One of the reasons google made chrome is that IE wasn't allowing google to track all the information that they wanted, so they made their own browser that allowed them to track exactly what they wanted.

Now, they have about a 25% market share and they can track all the signals they want.

That's too bad. Chrome is definitely the fastest browser I have experienced. Firefox just kept getting more and more sluggish. I wouldn't put it past Google to be tracking every single thing we do in the browser though...

100%

this is the purpose of the chrome browser...IE wasn't giving them the tracking formation they wanted...

google is so corrupt and for that matter, most corporations in the US...

I finally find what was missing in my SEO knowledge, so big thank you to OP!

My site that has been #1 for the last 3 years has dropped to #3 in the UK and #5 in the US.

I received a message in Webmaster Tools in mid feb saying:

Google Webmaster Tools notice of detected unnatural links to my site

I have been using private blog network since january.

Would be interested in what category you think I fall into
