OK, I have a good friend who's been out of work for a year. He's a smart dude, but I think being unemployed is driving him crazy to be honest. He has tried and tried all the conventional methods of job hunting, but still nothing and I am worried about him. He's not very internet savy, so I am thinking about setting up a Facebook page, blog, youtube video etc etc in some sort of campaign to get him maybe noticed by a prospective employer.

Am I wasting my time and do you guys have any ideas that could help.

Thanks in advance,

James :)

Tell him to move to North Dakota. 3.2% Unemployment thanks to the oil boom that's happening up there. Jobs abound.

People stocking shelves at Walmart make $15/hr

Or work on an oil rig (they will train you) and make $20+/hr

If your friend is not American, the same scenario is also happening in Canada and Australia in sand pit mines, and gold mines.

Google: cashed up bogans, perth mine unskilled jobs, north dakota oil jobs

Promoting your friend is a very cool thing to do, plus doing it online it's all trendy and shit. I don't see why it wouldn't work, it's like an online resume. Hell, it can turn into a consulting type deal if you promote it right/have testimonials

It's all about marketing your strengths and talents; you know that though.

@derajc : You are a good dude.

Thanks guys, he's English btw and I dont think he will want to move from his people.

It sounds like you are going to be doing everything for him while he just sits there.

He should be the one doing all these things.

Teach him how to setup a FB page, etc if that's what you want to do, and have him do the work.

Lazy people will not succeed in the long run.

I hear you, but the man isn't too good at that sort of thing and he helped me out with something in the past.

Is he a good handyman (I mean there's a little bit of a handyman in all of us)? Then tell him to get a cheap set of old tools and start posting flyers around town offering his services fixing all kinds of small stuff, helping people move stuff around, hammer a nail, etc.

You'd be surprised how many people don't even know how to hold a hammer or look with fear at any power tool. This strategy worked well for me in the past when I was jobless and when I wasn't actually fixing stuff I was on the phone with desperate people begging me to pay them a visit and unclog a pipe/replace a tile in their bathroom. Hack, I made some pretty good money back then.:D

Well then he's a lazy leach.
Drop him like a hot potato!
I'm In the UK and there is no reason here to be not making any money.
Either they climb the ladder themselves or they will pull you down.
