Been making many accounts yesterday and today.

I noticed today that the default when creating a channel is to use your Google profile. Even if you rename it after.

When creating a profile, look to the bottom for a link to just create a channel without an obvious Google profile attached.

How would that stop mobile views?

Its been like that for months.. Nothing new

I tried to sign up for a new channel and they now require you to give them your phone number for confirmation. Sucks. :(

I do not know where are you live. But I create and use YouTube accounts using IPs from many many countries (private proxies and VPNs) and NEVER seen this new way to name a channel till today.
I guess you just did not see a real new page (today I saw a few old-style pages too, but only a few).

On new-style page, if you try to upload a clip, you see blue button "OK, I'm ready to upload" and BELOW it small text link "Create a username".

If you missed it first time, you can fix it later. On top menu: choose "YouTube settings" -> "Manage Account" -> in the center of the screen you see text "Create a username for this channel and hide the Google Profile information associated with it" with desired "Create username" link.
