I fucking suck at wordpress blogging. I still can't figure out how these feeds work or how I use an auto-update plugin so if anyone can point me to some info that has basics that would be cool.

But in the meantime, if you were making a bh site used strictly to drive affiliate sales and also some adsense, would you go for a free template or use wordpress?

I would be curious to see what the concensus is on this. I am debating trying out Wordpress for my next site. It SOUNDS like it is supposed to be pretty easy and very search-engine friendly.

Until now, I have been using templates. I wonder what the advantages are of each method.

Localhero just go along to this website at www.easywebtutorials.com guido the site owner runs this free website on wordpress and rss and you can watch or download the videos, this man is really good at what he does gets my highest respect

Thanks nicho, I'm gonna check it out. I have a few blogs already but I am nowhere near proficient with wordpress.

My clumsy methods of html are a drag on my time. Plus the templates always look cheesy to me. With the few blogs I do run I use blogger and wordpress but wordpress is pretty nice.

Yes, html coding slows me down as well. The templates look like something from 1989 to me.

With Wordpress, I am guessing that the advantages are in the plug-ins. You could put a 'sticky' at the top of every page (autoresponder / e-mail capture), you could make each page search-engine friendly very quickly, etc.

I'm probably going to try a Wordpress install with my next site...or perhaps a nice landing page program.

I really like wordpress, but it's a matter of finding good templates that you can edit.

I spend a really long time looking through sh*tty templates before I pick one. Remember to change the write permissions on the template's files (to 777 for example) so you can make them however you want, then change the write permissions back to something safe.

One of the advantages of wordpress that people are bragging about is that the permalink structure has a new default that is more search engine friendly. You could always customize the permalinks before, but with WP 2.3 it's already setup and you can just make some simple alterations without having to dig through some tutorial to learn how to do it. This means you can stuff each blog post link with more keywords by including the "topic" and the "category" in each link.

That was some awesome info, how about some rep?

You got it. That's the kind of shit I have no clue on. I gotta read up on this stuff.

If you go on blogging, thats mean need to update the content regularly, then wordpress is better because it designs to do that. As we know that search engine do like site that been updated regularly with fresh content.
The way I like wordpress is flexibility to add plug in and widgets. It's also very easy to change the template and has SEO friendly permalink url..
So wp is good for us to get good SERP in search engine... IMO

I been using WP since I found it, fall in love with it.

I'm using it for all my sblogs. In fact WP is just another great CMS, simple to use and save hell lot of time, especially if you need to change the site's layout. It can just be treated like a site...oh yeah , blog is a WEBSITE too ! :p

The permalink structure help me to generate longtail url. It really help especially getting trafifc from SE. I got quite a number of traffic from yahoo and MSN, not much from G. G is very picky :p

just 2cents
