Results for my first clients, how to present them?

So it's been a year since my first client and I've really improved this guys rankings. I went from 200+ to <10 for almost all of his keywords. So I want to share the news with this guy, and sell him for another full year ;-).

My question is; How do you guys "present" your results? Do you use some kind of awesome pie-chart or something? Can anyone share any examples of what they would send clients? PSD's would be even more helpful

Most logical (and common) is a line chart over the year period showing the movement in rankings...

If you have access to his traffic statistics, show him the increase of traffic volume over this period, so he understands the benefits of your services. (Line chart again).

What could you make a pie chart of, when you are presenting changes in numerical data over a time period? You can't.

The only thing you could do with a pie chart (as far as I can imagine) is showing him the estimated % of search traffic volume each website gets for the top 10 rankings. I believe it's 40% for ranking #1? In doing so, you could show the benefit of signing up with you for an additional year so that you can get him higher rankings (and thus, higher traffic volume).

First of, well done OP for taking action and producing results for your client but remember this:

When selling SEO services to any potential client it's worthwhile pointing out EARLY ON that SEO doesn't stop once you get to a specific page or position in the SERPs; after all, keeping a good ranking will require that ongoing SEO work be carried out. This makes the "resell" easier as it's already been established that SEO is a progressive process and not a one hit wonder.

With regards to presentation, as smp34 has said, a linear chart showing ranking movements over the duration of the campaign and traffic stats will provide you with plenty to use.

Depending on the client's technical level I would take the linear chart one step further and put it into a PowerPoint presentation, showing some information about his competitor sites, traffic stats, an example of continuing search engine optimization, and how your service helps increase his overall profits

The bottom line if you show him he's making more money than he's spending, that would be a wise business decision to keep your service

The easiest option would have been to use Rank Tracker and send him a "historical data report" - that is the best evidence that he started on X and now is on Y position.

The Best is, create an excellent chart sheet, with rankings development, and work effort in diagram way.

If he likes your way, he gonna subscribe for another year.

Ranktracker reports and other charts are great if the client is an analytical personality and likes to see a lot of data. If they are not too analytical (or doesn't have a lot of time), you could just show them one chart and keep it simple and to the point. The point is to upsell him, so focus on doing whatever it takes to raise his enthusiasm about your services. Enthusiasm is the key in my opinion.

Give me a shout if your a serious seo company.... I have some bloody amazing dashboards built which is been developed and used over 2 years.

We can also incoperate social media, analytics, ppc and affiliate data on a simple cname record giving you whitelabel reporting dashboard.

We have huge cloudbased java system that gets ranking data like no other, all local ips

When I pick up clients, I always send them a 60+ page report after a month or two showing everything I worked on. Usually they're so impressed (and perhaps overwhelmed lol) that they ask me not to send anymore reports because it's obvious I know what I'm doing and they just keep buying lol.

But anyway.
I assume you're using an analytics platform? You should include his traffic increase over the year, the traffic source increase (so he can see more and more are coming from the target keywords), ranking increase, and a summary of the work you did.

Thanks for the replies all. The sad thing is, yes I do have data on webvisitors but because of a complicated problem thats not my fault it's not really impressive. So yes, I want to do pretty graphs but how?

I have data on:
His 2011 rankings
His 2012 rankings (currently)
(His 2013 rankings, if he stays with me?)

I have some more data of course, but nothing that'll make him go WOW.

Also, I'm not a designer. So I don't know how to make a 'WOW' graph. So what i'm looking for is some examples
