Best on-going price for domain names?

I Have about 180(ish) domains with GD, only because I can get them for $6 - $8. I don't host with them though (barf). I have a handful of domains that GD wont let be buy through them (not p0rn or anything like that). I have those domains at netfirms only because I got them for $3. Now they are trying to charge something like $14 to renew them. I'm looking to transfer them somewhere where I can pay $7 - $10 (cheaper the better) to host them.

I know this has been asked 100 different ways but most of the posts involved using a coupon or some sort of one time deal. I'm looking for a long term solution.

Who do you guys use? What is their on-going "everyday" renewal price?

In my opinion, the best long term solution is to periodically transfer batches of names from one registar to another when the gaining registrar is running some sort of special on "bulk" transfers. That or call your existing registrar up and ask them to give you some incentive to stay with them (less likely to work and more of a hassle in my experience). Once a registrar has you in their grubby paws, they have little incentive to cut you price breaks on renewals.

Often if have a quantity of as low as 5 or 10, and the right transfer promo code, you can qualify for a bulk transfer (registrars love gaining names). Transfers are a bit tricky, they just need a bit of baby-sitting, but with *most* registrars is not that hard.

You'll also often get a year of free whois privacy on those names if you want it, unless you go with internetbs, where the whois priv is free as long as the name is with them.

As always, does not apply to 1&1.

True that's going to get you the best deal most likely. But that's part of what I was trying to avoid. A lot of these are domains that I use so I wouldn't want to risk any down time.

If by downtime you mean what I think you mean, it is not an issue with a name transfer as long as you keep the existing nameservers. It's hosting transfer that your site *might* be down to part or all of the world for awhile (though you can minimize that too).
