How to Build Legitimate Backlinks

I'm going to call it now in case everyone doesn't realize this.

Google is cracking down hard on unnatural links.

Meaning if you are getting links from web 2.0 blogs, or getting links from Blog Networks,

as soon as you get to #1, you will be slapped hard and you may never come back.

If you want your website to rank naturally, let's say you run a blog.

This is a strategy you could use:

1. Write unique content
2. Let other bloggers know about your content. Post your comment to forums.
3. If you get linked from their site; then you know you have good content.
4. Then google will see this as a legitimate link.

Google is becoming way smarter. They can tell a blog is part of a network from so many factors. They used to crack down on link farms in the past too. This is not new.

Niche Sites are not being hit as hard.

You only get hit hard when you're in a competitive niche, and when you are #1, and you get reported, google will do a manual review into your backlinks.

If the backlinks have content which is poorly written content,
google will penalize you for it. They can run grammar checks on all backlinks and see the distance from that to your content.

If you are using twitter
1. Start conversations with other tweeters. And engage them.

2. You want to engage your audience.

3. Facebook is becoming a very popular traffic source

A member on this forum said to monitor the referrers of people that come to your site. If you see a suspicious one from google - it may be from their manual team.

If you are using mainly blog networks, and any PAID services, you are pretty much done. Don't think, get out now.

I just lost an authority site today, which was #1 for several keywords - and my rankings are dropping ever hour.. just like a house that's on fire.

A little too dramatic . I mean you are basically telling that grey hat off site SEO is over.

Google can't afford to review all new 1st manually, they only do the websites which has been reported.

Moreover, if you create several tiers of backlinks, there are no way that the crappy links built on web 2.0 can ever affect your main website. You can loose SEO juice from a reported web 2.0 property but who cares ?

If we were waiting for bloggers to talk about us, SEO agency would have better to shut down . (outside the ones who are claiming to rank for your domain name ofc)


Once again, link diversity remains the solution and you have maybe to increase the time you intended to rank your website.

That said, i'm really sorry for your authority website, but you seem ressourceful you'll find your way back.

So Google is getting smarter. I say they were never actually that stupid. It's just that now its starting to hurt their business.

Only thing which WE can do is get Smarter. Think better, think clearer.

I learned two lessons from this thread and was reminded of one:

You must always look at trends, do risk management and sell your website at the opportune moment.

Don't use blog networks. Ever. I have seen this in so manyy other threads lately. Better safe than sorry.

Google is getting smarter. But there are a few flaws in your assessment.

Web2.0 blogs are not now, nor have they ever been penalized. If you are penalized using web2.0 blogs (like wordpress, blogger, tumbler, weebly, posterous, etc) -- it is merely a coincidence.

Whether or not Google can detect whether a blog is part of a network depends strictly upon how that network is used. If its part of a general-topic blog network that has outgoing links on every single post -- 2 outgoing links -- then yes that blog network has issues that might effect you. But that could just as easily be Google doing it the grunt way, actually joining the network, discovering the blogs and discounting any links being generated from those blogs. The more secretive a blog network is, the better. I'm under the impression that many public blog networks have been infiltrated by Google already. That doesn't mean that Google knows what is happening with a truly private blog network that uses best practices (class-c IP hosting, differing nameservers, THE BLOG NETWORK NOT INTERLINKING TOGETHER, all blogs on same theme, same spins pushed to high percentage of blogs on network (to the point all sites are spun clones of each other), etc.

Using mainly any service is a bad idea. You need everything. I'd recommend the following right now ...

site is 6 months old or less (since Google knows of its content)

- higher quality article directories
- web 2.0 blogs
- social bookmarking
- contextual wiki links
- high PR quality comment backlinks (manually written relevant comments)
- link pyramids such as linkpushing or anything equivelant
- edu and gov contextual links

then if the site is older than 6 months

- direct AMR blasts
- direct fiverr gigs except for scrapebox or xrumer

then for your tier2 ...

scrapebox, xrumer, AMR and public blog networks

I think Google may indeed be getting smarter but what if they find a site ranking on page 1 that is worthy of page 1 status?

In addition I thought BH techniques were more or less a jumpstart to becoming a WH site.

Lets look at it this way, if we go BH and get our site to page 1 in the top 5 range and no one is naturally linking to us but they ARE naturally linking to all the sites above and below us what is going to happen when the blog network links and other links get yanked?

IMO the trick is and always has been to actually have a site worth visiting. I have 2 sites that have disappeared from SERPS, the sites are both filled with duplicate content. I pretty much have been using the same linking strategy that I have with all of my sites yet they are still holding firm.

But no ... nobody wants to hurt competition like that. They want to take out a battle tank of a website with a firm grip on #1. Just the fact that they are there at #1 already shows they've got a pretty decent backlink portfolio.

On a site such as that ... a blast could actually help them (or be neutral).

However, I have seen case studies on BHW (don't remember the link off the top of my head) where people have blasted #1's into never ranking again.

So to answer your question, yes, and hurting competition like this is nothing new. Its called google bowling, and its been available in various forms for years.

Completely understood and to your point if a site has gotten to #1 and it is of value shouldn't it at some point begin to get some natural links back to the site? That is my main point.

I think some of us have gotten into the easy creation, easy ranking that we are learning online but I think if we take a little bit of time on the front end actually making a site that has some info or is well laid out that it has a chance to stick even with BH tactics pushing it there.

Just remember the timer countdown starts when Google first sees content on your website that matches its eventual niche. So if you buy a domain and start building it 6 months later, its still a 0 day site when you first put it up.

Agreed but what about the theory of 301'ing aged domains to new ones? As in a 5 year + domain to a brand new domain. Some claim it helps add legitamacy to the new domain. It obviously doesn't change actual age, but have you seen or heard anything one way or the other on that tactic?

Well i think google would count the content hosted period on domain. Not the register date. And the content relevance. So as you continue hosting your content on your domain its value will increase.

If I have a spare 5 year old domain, I would make it an individual blog and use that to build content and links to my main money site. Not sure if the way you mentioned works ... may or may not (I don't have experience with 301ing old domains to new ones).
