SEO implications of moving hosting

I would like to move from a shared hosting to a dedicated VPS hosting provider. This will obviously change my ip and I will need to point the name servers to the new host.
How does google see a change like this?
This is an online store so I want to impact downtime and search engine results as little as possible.
Any advice or past experience is sincerely appreciated - thank you in advance.

Your ranks might dance slightly but overall moving to a new host or ip doesn't cause much effect. Unless the website is down for a really long time.

As the demon says, you shouldn't experience any issues...

Try to get the site fully configured and ready to go so that when you change nameservers, it's transparent to the users. Most hosts can provide you with a direct IP address for uploading and viewing before the nameservers change over.

Yeah as long as you aren't changing too much, you should be ok. When you start changing the whois, IP, content and some URL's then problems might arise. I saw a story on mixergy of a guy who changed all of his URL's (but not his content) for a site that was making $500k/month and he lost all of his rankings and all of his cashflow!

could even be slightly better if the load time of your site is much faster on the vps
