How does 301 and passing juice works? Does it get indexed too?

I often hear a lot of users here recommending using 301 redirection to pass on link juice. I am wondering how it works in general?

Suppose I got a expired high pr domain, do I blast that site directly, then 301 redirect it to my 'money site'?

In theory, this should keep me safe because if by any chance G decided to penalize me, they would've done it to my 'expired high pr domain' site, and not my money site?

Is this the reason why a lot of us are spamming bit.ly links nowadays?

Also, when blasting the 'expired high pr domain' site, does this site get indexed as well? or will it show my 'money site' in rankings?

If you do 301 redirect everything belongs to your 'high pr domain' will be counted towards your money site. Everything including links, PR and penalties. Your 'high pr domain' will completely disappear from G index, it PR become invalid. When you remove redirect, 'high PR domain' will get it PR back with next update.
Just noticed you said 'expired'. I believe there is nothing you can do to expired domain other then registration renewal.

I would never hit a site directly. Even if you get the needed results, it's risky in these times when you read the postings about google letters related to unnatural links. I got good experiences with using it at second and third tier.

About bit.ly: Bit.ly isn't a 301 redirect, it displays the page in an iframe if you are using it as banner. And when you use the other option, there is an ad stop.

I've used 301 redirects and build backlinks to them not to blast "cheap backlinks" to it.. I use it to hide some backlinks from my competitors. Competitors always are only searching for backlinks to the mainpage, but not to hidden link juice.

Just buy ages + high authority domain then you can blast it and 301 redirect to your money site. I do this

Not true. PR and rankings come back after the website goes live again.
