How is everyone doing. im currently takin a public speaking class and I can say that its a big fear of mine. Does anyone have tips on what to do when im up there in front of others. the thought just scares me but i need to get over it!

if you are behind a podium, one tip that I got was hold an ice cube in your hand, the cold takes your mind off a lot of things

I have a job in which public speaking is the norm. No matter how many times I've done it, I still get a little nervous every time. You're main goal should be to hide your fear but still look natural. You'll notice that the first thing you do when you start to feel nervous is clasp your hands together or start messing with something. You might also start to sway. Also, watch your "uh's" and "um's". Essentially, keep this in miind: "I am the subject matter expert here to teach them." Also, when people ask questions, don't get nervous. They're not challenging what you said, they just don't understand it. Good luck.

read this,
change you room paint with big picture of people who see the music concert. That way can make you feel confident because the picture (i mean people) see you with smile and spirit face. and it can make you adapt fast with people, even it just a picture.

another way is to hold something, microphone or paper (key point of your speech).

You need to watch king's speech movie. You can learn what the king does to make himself confident.

I always keep in mind that most people are not even paying attention to me when speaking in the first place. Stand up straight and tall, look around the room and smile, talk with some authority. I love public speaking!!

Stay cool Buddy! Speak whatever you wish without any fear,as we are humans not bots! Human tends to do mistakes so never mind your silly mistakes.Try to participate in any group events share your ideas/views with you colleagues or friends .Try to make fun of others its a good technique that'll surely reflect your speaking ability :) Speak as if u are the King!!! One day you'll surely notice the change in you :)

Just wanted to update you guys. I passed my speech class! This past semester was difficult but I was able to get through it! Thanks for the support guys!

One tip i have: Think you are better then them all in the audience and you are the expert. When you have that confident in you, you should just do fine. (but just dont sound too cocky).

In my experience the only way to get less nervous is to actually practice in front of people. I took Toastmasters for a bit and it really helped me get more comfortable talking infront of people. I am by no means a pro but if I would have kept on taking it eventually I would have got there. In my opinion public speaking is one of the most important skills a person should acquire through life as it will help you in so many aspects it is not even funny. Instead of teaching some of those bullshit classes in school they should have taught people public speaking every year until graduation. It will help both in your personal and professional life.

Most likely, you are not comfortable talking to strangers. If you really want to get past this fear, go up to random people and ask them for the time or for directions to some place (that you know of). Act as though you are from out of town. Try to carry on a conversation with them.

The more comfortable you are with the topic, the better you will be. If you take notes with you, only take key points and remember the details that go with those key points. If you try to remember it as a script, you will get even more nervous.

Do it often. Take an acting class at a community college or volunteer for something at your church or in your community.

I had a good friend that wanted to get past the same fear. He started teaching drivers education classes (to those that have been pulled over and ticketed). This helped him a lot and he made money.

Congrats on passing the class! Since you passed, what are some tips that you did to overcome your fears?

Public speaking is only nerve-racking because it's people you don't know (for most people). The idea of talking to strangers is scary to most, so when it's a room full of them it's even worse.

Go up and talk to a bunch of people in the room one-on-one before speaking (if you have the opportunity) and the whole room will feel a lot easier to work once you get up on stage.

That's the best technique I've ever used. If you feel like you know 2-3 people in the Audience, then pretend you're just speaking to them 2-3 people at the same time once you're on stage, it's much less overwhelming.

Some tips that helped me a lot are as follows:

1. Be prepared. If you will be speaking in front of others, its good to do some research and know what you're talking about. I learned that the times I was most nervous, was when I was not fully prepared for a speech.

2. If you are taking a speech class, know that everybody taking it is in the same spot. Seeing the face of others before they went up assured me that I wasnt the only one feeling the way I was.

3. In speech class. A major tip, be a leader no matter how hard it may seem. Try to be one of the first up and get it over with.

These are just some simple steps that helped me get over my speech class.
