Hey guys, Google Knol is shutting down April 30th. All content is available there until the 30th. After then it won't be public anymore.

It could be a good opportunity to locate some unique content on there. Google wants people to move their stuff, but I'm sure most of it won't be moved. Whatever content you grab from them that is unique, if you put it up right away it'll be original when Google shuts knol down.

They've got about 600k pages indexed -- lots of content waiting for a new home!

did you do it?

Scraping? no. I did go and cherry-pick several articles for a couple sites in one of my niches though.

Thanks for the heads up phpbuilt! I'm picking a few articles for later use.

What would happen if you were to publish an article now and then the original article from Knol gets deindexed. Would your article be seen as unique now or is it earmarked forever as duplicate content?

I guess you would just need to change it a bit. BTW, there are lots of heavily spun articles on that sinking ship. No wonder they are closing. You really have to cherry pick.

Google is telling everyone to jump ship. They know the knol content is going to move and find new homes. They assume that its going to be the original author reposting elsewhere. And how, exactly, are they going to verify that it was the real, bonafide original author that is posting that knol on a new web2.0? Or website? They have no idea.

I see a lot of pages moved already mate. You see a way to beat that too?

i checked several articles and they are all seo made articles :D linking other sites

Wouldn't this statement on their website imply that any articles which are not transfered or downloaded will be moved onto Annotum?

"Knol will be moving to Annotum on May 1, 2012"

The original owner of the content will have the option to transfer content to wordpress.com nd then they will have a better proof they are the original owners of the content. I am downloading some stuff and will start using it after May 1.
Thanks for the share.Brilliant idea
