Question about researching a trend or niche

Ok. My head spins everytime I hear you need to research your niche to make sure there is a market, before running cpa offers etc.

can someone just give me a clear way of doing this. I have found so much information contradicting each other on the forum.

I just want to know the best way to:

1) Determine if a niche has a marketplace
2) Determine how competitive it is
3) What is the basis of going forward. Put some meaning into the numbers for me.

Why not try Google search combined with some creativity?
Use search terms specific for your niche to understand what it is all about, then use additional keywords as filters to narrow down the search to the results about the business volume, e.g. "marker report", "sales plan", "business plan", "trends", "statistics", "volume of trade" etc.
There is no universal recipe, just dig into your target niche, read some forums, articles, blogs, reviews, company profiles and sales pages, and you will be surprised how your future clients will teach you the specific keywords to watch and much more.
Just love to read and comprehend, otherwise you shall consider to ask somebody else doing the search for you.
If you need numbers, then please be more specific and write on the forum about your niche ideas (e.g. "how to cope with pain", "overcome shyness", "how to become a public speaker", "how to build your own bio-gas generator", "how to save on music purchases", "how to shot great photos", "finding a reliable attorney", "DIY accounting", "earn a fortune by repairing antique furniture", "make a living as freelancer", "your dream vacation", "better sex for aged", "self defense for housewives", "learn Spanish", "sell your house at double price", "skateboard tricks", "cook delicious food to keep your husband home", "be a respected parent", "using Google as an Internet guru", "antique weapons", "get rid of body odor", "Siamese cats", "huge and fascinating DIY aquarium", "using webcam to keep in touch with your family and friends while you are working abroad", "razor sharp knives", "flower gardening in L.A.", "beautiful roses", "amaze your friends with magic tricks", "vintage cars", "don't be scammed again" etc.

1) Determine if a niche has a marketplace
Some ways to assess:
a) there are many book and magazines (e.g. in Amazon and in big bookstores) related to the niche or niche topic that are widely targeted or better yet, target a particular market segment (e.g. men, women, men over 40 and balding, etc.)
b) there are google adword ads when you type in the niche-related keywords
c) people advertise (i.e. spend money) consistently to that niche online and offline

Sometimes, there's confusion and a mix-up in the use of terms i.e. between niche, and market (I'm guilty of that too).

I thought the following might help:
Niche = A special area of demand for a product / service (from:
thefreedictionary.com/niche)
Market = A subdivision of a population considered as buyers (from:
thefreedictionary.com/market)
e.g. eye concealer (might be the niche) for affluent woman professionals over 35 years old (these women would be the market).


2) Determine how competitive it is
Some ways to assess:
a) Check the number of websites on Google for the keywords (e.g. hair loss, middle age) related to your niche
b) Use wordtracker to assess keyword competitiveness helps too, I guess.

Note: Having competition, as I understand it to be; is a good thing. It suggests good demand. Thus, you need to look for your own hook or angle, or unique selling advantage for the product or service you hope to offer. The absence of competition might mean the niche is not profitable.

3) What is the basis of going forward. Put some meaning into the numbers for me.
Some ways to assess:
a) Suppose you find that people searched the term "wrinkle cream for women" 50,000 times a month and you discover that there are only 10 results for this term in google. Would this be a good basis to enter this niche and market to folks? What if instead of 10 results, there were 10,000 results in Google? or 100,000 results? But even in this case, you may be able to profit through a variety of creative and legal ways (e.g. with adsense or by building a database emailing/mailing list...since women interesting in wrinkle cream may also be interested in slimming, fitness, their health, even dating)


b) Run an adwords campaign with relevant keywords to see if people respond to offers for information pertaining to that niche...you can build a list this way too. Or Do a survey online and/or offline
e.g. in the adwords campaign, if 10 or more persons out of 100 (i.e. 10% or more) actually clicked on your google adword ad, and then of that 10 persons, say 2 or more (i.e. 2% or more) responded to your survey or offer for information, that might suggest responsiveness. oh, but these numbers are a guide and might vary depending on how well you can do adwords marketing, how responsive your market is, your copywriting and many other factors..etc...bottom line do simple low or no cost testing.

Wow...i philosophize too much..sorry...anyways... often you might just have to jump in and try the niche/market on for size, after doing your due diligence in researching the market. Actual marketing to the niche is sometimes THE most important component of researching that niche/market.

Hello, I won't be able to give you a direct strategy on how to "make money" with your niche. However, I found this guide to help me because of it's simple and quick format that helped me understand how to gauge my niche much better these days.
