I've been on this question for quite some time (2 years actually). I used to be tired all day and always 'out of the mood.' I've changed my day to day activities a lot and this is what really helped me. I now wake up BEFORE my alarm clock nice and refreshed.
-Find out your sleep pattern. For me, I realized that I had delay sleep phase disorder--meaning I fall asleep later then other people. After I learned about this, I just shifted my sleep time until 2 or 3am and wake time to 10am.
-I wake up and, for breakfast, I drink a green smoothie. I put spinach, kale, collard greens, a banana, and almond butter into the blender. Add some ice. Yum. Raw greens for breakfast. This is my coffee replacement. Works wonders.
-I work for a few hours and, around 2ish, I take a 20 minute nap.
-I work out 3 times a week.
-I do not drink coffee. It was hard to quite so I replaced coffee for green tea for the first few weeks.
-I go to bed at the same time every night on the weekdays. On the weekends, I relax this rule a bit but, after a few weeks of this, your body will be used to the schedule sunday night.
-One hour before bed time, I stop everything I'm doing and get into my bed time routine of 20 minutes of meditation, shower, and read a book.
-I take 1.5mg of melatonin every night. Helps me fall asleep and stay asleep. I stay inside most of the day so I don't think I see enough sunlight.
Now, I am alert and awake and get MAD stuff done every day. No pills or drugs needed. By follow what my body says and by eating good food, I feel amazing.
I also don't like aderall because it makes me chew my jaw too much.
