But have never ranked a website yet! :) So can I make it? The keyword is a 1600 monthly searches with high competition (from google keyword tool) I have never tried to rank a website before, but i know pretty much about SEO both offsite and onsite stuff. So how hard can it really be to rank this keyword? :) Its in swedish btw, and i've looked at all the sites that are in top 10 in google, and they dont really look that great!? Some of them are even plain ugly, and no onsiteseo at all! So this shouldn't be too hard right? <3

You might find some of the resources in my signature useful, they specifically examine dealing with offline clients and set up. As far as the SEO if you have never done it before you may want to outsource it to a pro like 7878, or Jstover (they both have BST threads) they should be able to easily help you rank your client until you get a better handle on things

should be able to get top 1st page within 1-2 weeks with just good onpage seo.

Well, thank you! I will look into that :)

Really, that easy?

how much have you charged the customer?

Nothing yet, I wont charge him until my work is done.

Only one way to find out, fix up a good site and start building links. If its a local related keyword you probably won't have much competition but I have had my share of battles in that realm.

How much did you manage to squeeze out of them a month?

It is a local related keyword, (no other site found in googe places). They asked me how much i wanted, but im not sure yet how much i want yet as i have no idea how much these things usually cost.

We can't tell you what the cost would be as we don't know the words or the competition. SEO isn't that straight forward. 7878 and Jstover charge between $147 - $200 a month for various keywords. So if you are reselling be sure to be above that.

Good luck! Get your prices set, though, otherwise nobody will be happy. :/

So you have knowledge, but no working experience and you took on a client

Imagine if you read how to fix a car, never worked on one, and then you decide to open a auto shop.

You would either have to lie to your client about experience, or your work will turn out unsatisfactory.

I wish you the absolute best of luck in this extremely delicate situation you've placed yourself in

Thanks! I don't understand how i could lose on this, or how this client could turn out unsatisfied as I'm not going to take any payments until the owner sees improvements on his SEO-rakings.

The owner of this business has no idea about how google works and what seo is, all that is just strange to him, hiss business does not even have a facebook-page.
And the competition on his keyword on google aren't really that great, i know that in some weeks of works I could outrank them.
But if i fail to do so i'll just leave it that way and all i have lost is some time of mine (And maybe gain some experience) As i wont take any payments if my work doesn't provide anything.

you working process is a bit off

you should agree a payment with the customer if you achieve certain results otherwise you have nothing to work on

tell him he can pay after you improve but agree any prices before you start

All you know is from what you've read on this forum isn't it? Ah man, you've put yourself in a potentially tricky position. :)

Give it a go yourself, or if it fails subcontract.

How much are you going to charge? Give us a guess on the keywoard? Seeing as you're Swedish and have already (well, almost) secured a contract you have nothing to worry about.

Best of luck. :)

Ranking a specific keyword that is 1600 exact match is not THAT hard. If I were you, I'd consider just using a few services to rank it quick and then charge per month for "upkeep" (which I think you should be able to do manually).

I suggest you come up with a cost per month before making it, though. If you end up making it and they expect something for $50 / month then you'll have a site with no buyers.

as people said here, I dont know why alot of people just want to jump and become an seo consultant when they didnt have the real methodology of SEO

You better get back to skool of blackhatworld, and rank a few website yourself before taking on clients under your belt if not you will fail miserable.
