Question on Redirects and Craigslist

If I have an ad on cl and use an autorepsonder with a link to my redirect, does my affiliate see that the person came from my site or do they see they came from an email? I assume they see my site but I noticed something in my log files that makes me wonder.

they will see the refer from where it was "clicked", which would be from the email. unless your redirect was also a "click" and not an automatic redirect.

the affiliate net sees where the last click was to bring someone to them. the redirect hides you from the person clicking. for instance, if you put a link in your ad that says www.joeshmoe.info or whatever and that goes to a redirect with your affiliate link, they will never see or know you as a middle-man, and go right to the offer. it looks better than to click on a link that looks like zyx.dfdf.info/id=454545 .

yes it can hide things from your network as well, but not that way. they will still see the refer from the last click, and not from a programmatic redirect.

if you make the redirect just a page that says "click here to go to xxxx" or something like that, THEN the traffic to the affiliate will look like they came from your redirect page, and not from the email link. because they click the email link first which brings them to your redirect page. then they click that link second, to the last clicked link sending to the affiliate is from your redirect page.

So let's say i have a link that's not clickable but is pasted into the address bar. Where does it look like the person came from? Is that a non-referrer. The bottom line is that I don't want my aff to know where the person came from. Doable?

yes, a typed or pasted in address bar link will show no referrer.

you can just use the method i used in the previous post to hide it from the affiliate. it will show they came from the page you set up.

thanks buddy, i guess i'm debating on it. what would be more likely for them to do: copy/paste a url or click and then click again. might have to experiement.

People tend to be lazy, especially when your trying to sell them something. If they are clicking through an email all you need to tll your affiliate is you are marketing to a huge list you have. A lot of people will probably not copy and paste, especially with Craigslist. They are a picky bunch there and you need to get them quick.

i agree with famook. i would have on your page just a link that says "click here if you are not redirected in 30 seconds" or something stupid like that. of course, the link will never actually automatically be redirected, and most people wont wait anyway and will just click it. and the ones who are dumb enough to sit there staring at it for 30 seconds (yes there are probably some dopes that will) will eventually click on it if they really want to go there.

another suggestion: see if the offer allows email campaign and just use that link in your email instead. the affiliate will be looking for leads from the email anyway.

so if i register a domain name with a hosting comp and redirect the domain name directly on my hosting account to my aff link, where will the traffic appear to be coming from...since there will be no click at all?

depends on how they are getting to your domain. if they are typing it in the url bar, then as i said earlier, there is no referrer. if they click on somewhere to click to get there, the last link they clicked from will be the referrer

Setting up redirects through domains is really the best way to market on craigslist. Since you can't post links directly without looking like a spammer, create a graphic that shows your domain that redirects to your affiliate link.

I have a small script that is supposed to redirect without being obvious to google, the problem is that often times it comes up as noreferrer in the affiliate programs I am sending traffic to.
