You could divide your network in 2.
One with open links / reports for people wanting reports
One for people who would like the super protected network, no reports / links shown
Myself Im glad you made this move. People blasting posted articles is a risk.
Whole site might be penalized / deindexed due to massive spammy incoming links.

Just got the email..
So I'm really pleased you're closing membership, but I'm really annoyed that we can no longer get reports. I trust that you guys are posting the articles like you say you are, this is NOT my concern at all!
The problem that I have with this is that I'm posting articles as part of my SEO link pryamid strategy.. These articles are my 2nd tier out of 5 tiers, if I can't get the links from the articles then I cannot do my other 3 tiers!
This is the problem that I have. Is there anyway around this? Or a way that you could perhaps let us build further links to our articles? If you could offer a further bookmarking, forum profile sig linking and blog commenting service as well that would be awesome
I mean I see that your network is still awesome for the people buying home page links and comments, but for people buying articles this is a real problem..
Anyway thanks for shutting the service to new members because that is an amazing step in the right direction. I respect the decision.
I'm glad your happy about this, and as for your suggestion..this is something I already brought up. It is something that we are discussing but no decisions have been made yet. We are currently in defense mode, nothing is final or for sure. We just have our shields up as we plan out whats best for our users.

Awesome... I'm sorry for you all guys who didn't had active membership. This network is just amazing, I submitted only few posts and my rankings received big boost. + price is just awesome, hope you won't raise the price tag

One advise though - vary templates of sites. When I checked sites, most of them were using the same template but different colors, it would be great if you will change templates.
BTW, what if rat from Google already has membership at HPS? Filter IP's, maybe Googlers with IP located in Mountain View are already members?

As for as the updates go:
CLOSING the membership is an awesome move especially with the number of members now. TAKING OUT the getting reports is also a good move because it will protect the whole network even further.
Guys, we have to look at this long-term. Do you want to get reports now and lose the network tomorrow? Or do you want to make this network long-term and continually giving us the results we want?
It is the issue of trust between the customers and the network. paying for a PR6 link with no clue on where the link is going to be posted is a little uncomfortable but in the long run, this is a smart decision not to disclose the exact URLs of the posted links to protect the network from this ugly Panda!
