Hi, I am looking at a domain for sale on godaddy auctions. It is aged 2007 and has some pages indexed and has adsense on it (so far so good). But it appears that it was filled mostly by garbage autoblog posts.

Now I wonder if it is penalized in someway (adsense ok, some pages indexed..). Anyway to know. I am intending to make it whitehat. Would there be 'hidden' penalties?

If its still indexed then its definitely not blacklisted and with some effort you could rank it easily.

I bought a domain for a keyword that already had 780 quality backlinks, 3 days after i bought it, sky rocketed to postition #12 !! couple weeks till #1 woot woot!

1.) Check if it's indexed.

2.) Check the link profile (majesticseo.com) to make sure it's fairly clean. Sometimes I see normal sounding domain names with kiddy porn links pointing to them :S

3.) Type in just the domain name without the domain extension. That means, leave out the .com,.net, etc..

If the domain shows up in the first page with that search and clears through the above two points. It is good to go.

If it doesn't show up on the first 1,2 or 3rd page it MAY have a penalty. This is like one of those -30 or -50 penalties.

Some people advise to do a "site:" check but in my experience that doesn't help in identifying a rank penalty.

In majestic, it has a few incoming links from link directories, nothing great or harmfull (no scrapebox blasts, he he).

Domain showing up without ".com".. that is a good trick! Yes, it shows up #1

Yes, indexed.

Just go ahead, all your white hat work will pay off.
Thanks!

Wow, nice, where did you find it, if I may ask?

New Question: Would you try to rebuild the index pages with something totally unrelated (different title, theme, etc.) and 301 redirect them, to take advantage of the age of those page. Or should I let the old garbage pages just die.

Who cares if it is or isn't... It must have some traffic from it's previous lifetime, so jump all over it. Good luck :)

I purchased an 'expired' domain awhile ago via GoDaddy. I think its has been left behind for a couple of months now.

I tried searching that domain (with and without domain extension on Google), and I couldnt find any results. Does that mean that domain is penalized? Or is it just deindexed since it was 'expired' a couple months ago?

Thanks
