(CBS News) Google is ready to pay out $1 million to hackers who can penetrate the security of its web browser Chrome. The competition will take place at the applied securities conference CanSecWest 2012, which is being held in Vancouver March 7-9.
"The aim of our sponsorship is simple: we have a big learning opportunity when we receive full end-to-end exploits," Chris Evans and Justin Schuh of Google Chrome's security team said in a blog post.

"Not only can we fix the bugs, but by studying the vulnerability and exploit techniques we can enhance our mitigations, automated testing, and sandboxing. This enables us to better protect our users."

Three prize categories have been created:

$60,000 - "Full Chrome exploit": Chrome / Win7 local OS user account persistence using only bugs in Chrome itself.

$40,000 - "Partial Chrome exploit": Chrome / Win7 local OS user account persistence using at least one bug in Chrome itself, plus other bugs.

$20,000 - "Consolation reward, Flash / Windows / other": Chrome / Win7 local OS user account persistence that does not use bugs in Chrome.

the contest will target four web browsers: Microsoft Internet Explorer, Apple Safari, Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. Computers must be running on the latest, updated version of Windows 7 or Mac OS X Lion.

yes you r right it's the total amount announced by google...but if you just find any of the mentioned exploit you can get a nice amount for you to bank...and IMO i think the amounts are quite good...

I don't think that this will be so easy to be done by script kiddies.....i mean if it was so easy then google might not have announced this big amount..for just a leak in it's browser...

or i don't know may be it is easy...i am going to try for it......

and yes you are right hacking anything is not easy but at the same time it is not impossible...i mean there is a possibility to get an exploit in it...after all it's a browser and sometimes vulnerability comes automatically in browsers but needs a lot of hard work as it is having a nice amount of reward so it's not going to be that easy...

i think you r wrong...this is not about money for pros..this is about the challenge which google has given them...just think google has announced a nice amount that means google is quite sure that his browser cannot hacked by anybody now...so the pros will sure try to show google a thumbs down...

Atleast you should have checked the date of the news before posting this...maybe your chrome has been hacked before...but it's about who can exploit chrome now...you just need to find a vulnerability in chrome and exploit it...so you bank the amount google is rewarding you with...
