Is there a way to include an anchor text with the smiley backlink trick?

I should have been more specific. I mean using the smiley link when commenting on a WP blog. Is there a way to put a anchor link in the smiley?

only if you have access to the "alt" attribute. Remember, images technically dont have anchor text. Google looks at the alt tag instead.

Could you post an example how this might look?

I have yet to try the smiley trick, but I was wondering if naming the smiley whatever anchor text you wanted to rank for would make a difference?

This is really starting to piss me off. All I can get the link to do is show the smiley with my url as keyword or it displays my keyword instead of the smiley. There has to be away to include all three elements. Any suggestions?

This is what I would recommend if you want to get your text relavant to your keyword.

First make the smiley an image. on your server, and make a directory related to the keyword, and rename the smiley as your keyword. i.e
Code:
http://www.yourdomain.com/cheap-real-estate/cheap-real-estate.jpg

Next on the BB domain do the following. (sorry dont know how to display BB code here but without it trying to render it, but you get the idea!)

This should make the smiley more keyword relevant as a hyperlink (:
Code:
URL="http://www.yourdomain.com"
IMG http://www.yourdomain.com/cheap-real-estate/cheap-real-estate.jpg /IMG /URL

Ok, when I try the top one and test it on my own blog it shows the whole string not the smiley, and then links to the jpg. I am trying to show my keyword on mouse over and then links to my main page. Am I doing something wrong?

http://www.google.com dont know if you can add ALT= or TITLE= to BB code, the best you can do is make the smiley image and the directory full of the keywords your targetting, as google DOES give weight to the name and the URL if it has relevant keywords. Some boards will allow ALT= and TITLE= but that is if the admin turns the option on.

WTF am I doing wrong. When I do mine for blog posting the link that show is like:

Code:
http://www.mydomain.com/my-keyword/my-keyword.jpg
It displays like that when I post a comment. When it is clicked it goes to a page on my site with the smiley on it. It does not show the smiley in the comment. just that whole URL. I made a directory and called it "my-keyword" I put the smiley in the directory and renamed the smiley "my-keyword.jpg. I don't know what I did wrong.
