getting started independently

I've worked for small blog and content houses but now I'm out on my own and no idea how to find work. I'm a talented content, fiction and copy writer but all of my work is owned by others - where should I start?

I should add: I read the "Finding work" thread. Here's a quick summary:

Associated Content - good but complicated
Fiverr - a potential starting point
ezine - doesn?t pay, dubious contact potential
odesk - difficult to find work offers at anything close to reasonable pay
Textbroker - US only (I'm in Canada)

Have you tried to search for work at freelancer.com and other forums like DP, WF?
