Guys, honestly, everybody must be forgot about M-E-T-H-O-D Man ?! Guy is a living hip hop legend.
Second, there is a guy called Busta Rhymes who deserves to be on the top. Not to mention DMX. I still listen to his music like he dropped his album yesterday.
And for South Rap, I would pick Ludacris.
So, that's my top 4. And I don't want to hear nothing about Gucci Mane, please lord forgive us

Andre Nickatina isn't that good. He's just known in the Bay Area, and tbh, Bay Area music is whack. Some of best alive:

hah, what? To just say all Bay Area music is whack is whack. They're some good NY artists but most of them say the same commercial shit and the beats sound the same. I get bored by most of it. Sounds like you don't listen to Bay Area music, hiero? del? blackalicious? e-40?

What about the guys in this video?

How has this thread gone on without Ice Cube and NWA being mentioned?

Oh and BTW, I'm an 18 year old Canadian. Not an American, so don't give me this west coast vs east coast crap. For me good music is good music, regardless of where it's from.

are you guys kidding me? are you guys seriously fucking kidding me right now? what the hell??

1. what other rapper has gone through such a phenomenal change in style and still does. weezy still gets better and better as time passes. compare the carter 2 to carter 3, both some of the hottest albums in music history PERIOD (3 sold 1 million records the first week). there was a huge change in style but he was still killing it.

2. what other rapper has made so much loot rapping? i mean really rapping not being a businessman like puff or jayz. and eminem doesn't count because we all know his target demographic (angsty preppy teens) is much larger than any other rap audience and specifically caters to him.

3. do you guys even listen to some of his sickassssss flows? try we be steady mobbin or 100 feet. he's a true genius.

i quote immortal technique:

cuz if you go platinum, it's got nothing to do with luck //
it just means that a million people are stupid as fuck //

I'm surprised only one person mentioned Eminem.

Give me that classic NYC stuff any day. For this thread, I'm going to rep the whole DITC crew.

Some of their stuff from crew albums:
DITC - Way of Life
DITC - Day One
DITC - All Love
DITC - Thick

Something old: Lord Finesse - Return of the Funky Man (1991)

Something in the middle: Buckwild & Lord Finesse - Down For The Underground (1996)

Something new: Showbiz & AG - Here & Now (2011)

Easy E. You gotta keep it old school.

Not figuring in irrelevant stuff like album sales... for real. Youd think The Fugees, Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer were some of the greatest lyricists of all time the way you cats worship who sold the most.

My Opinion on all this, too many different rappers to say one is better than all others. An apple can't be the greatest orange ever.

Pound For Pound (consistency over a wide array of subjects, including real non-fabricated stuff): Joe Budden

Best Storyteller: Nas. You aren't going to find a better conceptual artist who isn't afraid to take risks as far as narrative viewpoints and subjects.

Best coke rappers (don't rap about nothing but cocaine and the shit they bought with it): The Clipse.

Best at rapping about absolutely nothing: Curren$y

Best Current Gangsta Rapper: Freddie Gibbs

Best hardcore underground rapper: Sean Price, then maybe Styles P

Best Bay Area Rapper Dead: Mac Dre

Best Technical Rapper (multis, patterns, etc): Tech N9ne, THEN Eminem

Best Rapper from The South: Wide open field (lol). Prolly ZRo.

Best So-Called Backpack Rapper: Celph Titled? Ill Bill?

Best Rapper who's Not a Rapper: Mos Def (he's an actor that raps. Fans get it confused),

And Vinnie Paz been lazy with his bars for a minute. I know he said "Slow's my best pace"... but come on, now....

And besides, Bill slaughtered him on Heavy Metal Kings. I'd hate to see Vinnie thrown in a group like La Coka Nostra. Mr. White (everlast)>>>>>Vinnie Paz.

I don't have any #1 spots just artists with songs I like.MF DOOM is one but that's one of many aliases. Then there is strong arm steady, blackstar, outkast, game, kendric lamar,A tribe called quest, gang starr,de la soul and Wu-tang clan. Lil wayne can be easily destroyed in a freestyle battle with Willow smith, since he seems to favor dropping in and out of his autotune "singing" to say something that rhymes ,preferably over someone else's beat, and make no sense and then finish with a "yuuung mooolaah baaby" and that wierd giggle.I've lived long enough to experience the mid 90's through today and I really favor the early 2000's over whatever the hell is happening to hip hop.
