How does a keyword in a url work?

Don't know how to put this really. Say I have:

www.dogpalace.com

I want to rank for: Dog Forum

Which would I want:

www.dogpalace.com/dogforum 
 www.dogpalace.com/dogforums
 www.dogpalace.com/dog-forum 
 www.dogpalace.com/dog-forums
 www.dogpalace.com/forum
 www.dogpalace.com/forums

Just giving me which URL I would want would help me understand everything much better.

Subdomains "appear" to be stronger than subfolders for seo.
www.dogforum.urdomainname.com
Try and not use a hyphen..

You have no homepage ??? and wanted to build a subfolder with your page name/keyword..okay..
So...my suggesting would still work anyway using my idea..
And .using my suggestion you would still have your keyword in the domain anyway.
But..since you dont have a homepage..which is bizarre..it means you have no seo/link juice of any sort going to a subfolder/sub domain anyway..so..basically..your probably wasting your time building the "page".
I have never heard of anyone building a site and using any form of subs before..who had no root domain..other than people cloaking massive amounts of content..
If you were serious..you would build out the root domains and add different subs..folders/sub domains..whatever..
What your trying to do hasnt a snow ball chance in hell unless your keyword has low competition.

Well it is a forum. But I want to get the keyword in my url as that helps with serps.

I could just have the forum on the root domain, but then dogpalace dot com wouldnt have the keyword dog forum in it.

Surely you should have a home page?

I'm no expert (far from it) but why not have a home page with a keyword-rich article about dogs, and a link to the forum which would then be fine on a subdomain?
