Just got a job offer...have a question

Hey guys I just got an offer for a work from home job. One of the requirements is "a phone line without voice mail, or voice mail disabled",
I decided I'd figure that out if/when I got an offer

I have a cell phone with verizon that has voice mail so I can't use that. I would be working out of bedroom and need a phone...would something like a Skype number work? Or do I need to get a separate landline? Perhaps a prepaid phone?

Please advise what is the best option

Depends what they are planning on using the phone lines for. Our company ports the main phone number to the customer support agent that is working that shift and if they do not answer, it rolls to the company voicemail, not the agent's.

You might be best checking into the availability of a cheap landline.

I use something called Magic Jack and I never use the voice mail. It a card that you plug into your router or computer and you can connect a regular phone to it. You can use the phone like a regular one. I never use the voice mail that comes with it. Not sure if you can turn it off. Also it is like 100$ for 5 years, save me a lot of money.

Cool, I'm searching my room right now to see if their's a phone jack in here lol. Checked by my bed..now will check the desk. Landline sounds most legit but magic jack sounds interesting too..so they give me a number and I can make and take calls like a normal phone?

I know Skype has a similar offering. $60 for a year, people can call me and I answer on Skype.

You could use Google Voice, and "trick" the system into thinking you have a busy signal instead of a voicemail answer.

Yes, it is a jack that you plug into the internet router. Then you can plug your phone to it. It will set up a phone number, and address (in cause you need to make an emergency call). hmm well I'll be working from my bedroom upstairs and the router+modem is downstairs so I guess that wouldn't work out...

Get a wireless, cordless phone. The phone itself is not connected to the modem/router. Only the phone base. If your going to use google voice you have to be at the computer anyways.

I have an OBi110 set up for Google voice. My phone will ring even if my computer is turned off. Also, you can get a wireless phone so you don't have to be right next to your modem.

If its for a customer service job, normally it has to be a basic land line. You should check with them - they should have all specifications about what type of phone they require on their website. My mom does customer service from home.

As long as you have decent internet connection, you can set GVoice to ring your computer, not your cell phone.

At that point, all you'd need is a microphone / headset. I use it all the time, and love it.

I am using magic jack also for calling, you just have to plug it on a computer and ready to use it. But secure a good set of internet connection first
