scrapebox - home PC vs. VPS

Good info on this thread. About 70% of my SB questions have been answered here.

I have some spare machines that could do the job; but it looks like a VPS for me.

One thing that hasn't been addressed yet; is it safe / effective to use HMA VPN instead of investing in private proxies?

Thanks a lot everyone; this thread has been really helpful.

Exactly. That's really the point of this thread; I want to take the first steps, but if you check out all the information that's out there, not many people really address that.

I'm looking to take those first steps, but as with anything new; mistakes are going to be made along the way. I don't want to end up making a mistake that causes my ISP to drop me, or get my sites banned. I'd rather ask questions first and get some foresight, rather than learning the hard way.

Let me address this for you.

As someone who is new to scrapebox I understand that you don't want to spend a ton of money in a set-up.

However what you seek is really a catch22, because to be honest, to get anything out of scrapebox you are going to have to run it on a decent sized scale.

If you plan on just blasting some sites with crappy blog comments, after a couple of months you're gonna fall into the category of people who think "Scrapebox Sucks", because that's the "newbie level" of skill usage for the program.

To get anything out of Scrapebox you're going to have to harvest a ton of links to find those "golden nugget" sites that are worth your comments. This means multiple instances running for hours, as most of the URLs you harvest will still be garbage even when using good footprints.

A decent set-up with some proxies you can probably get for $100/month. If you are really concerned with price, grab an AA list from the downloads section and offer some gigs on Fiverr.

Scrapebox is an invaluable tool, but you need to set it up right to get the most usage.

Especially given your bandwidth limit situation, the last thing you need is to get in trouble with your ISP. WTF are you gonna do when they shut your internet down? I had to jump through hoops to get mine re-instated as they will flag you as a security threat.

So do yourself a favor and do it right from the start. The cost of the set-up will more than pay for itself with the value you get out of the program.

I totally agree with you; I personally know people that seem to fall into this camp and have been telling me to not bother. Although I don't consider them to be newbies at SEO (they're actually unbelievably successful in their own pursuits), SB just wasn't the tool for them.

I agree that moving up to a VPS might be required to get some true value from the program, but once again; I think I'm going to have to spend quite a bit of time learning how to use it effectively, and honestly SEO isn't my main pursuit, so I don't always have large blocks of time I can dedicate to my SEO efforts (and I'd rather not be paying monthly VPS / proxy fees if I am unable to find the time to make use of SB). This is the reason why I've been trying to gauge whether it's safe to use it on a home PC long enough for me to get the hang of it and see that I can integrate it within my workflow. I'm no idiot, and once I start to see that there's some promise in MY ability to use SB, I'd be willing to invest in a better setup / VPS.

So, the one last thing that remains to be addressed; for someone just getting to know the ropes, would HMA VPN be a reasonable alternative to purchasing dedicated proxies?

Can anyone recommend a good VPS with proxies for running Scrapebox?

I don't have scrapebox, so I might be missing something here, but could you run it on a seedbox that gives you SSH access?

Many seedbox companies allow you to install other software, and have php, perl and python support - plus fast connections and huge bandwidth allowances because of their intended use.

What does scrapebox need memory wise to run?

I own scrapebox and use it both at home and a vps.
I use a BHS vps and it works great. You get other stuff like senuke, sick submitter as well for $70 a month.
Bear in mind you need to get to a level where the software is paying for anything you rent,e.g a vps.
This can be by selling blasts or your sites are generating an income to cover costs.

I'd start at home,if you have a spare $50-70 go to bhs and get a vps and offer senuke\sick submitter blasts.

Despite owning alot of tools,I still outsourcr,I'll get a 20k blast from fiverr simply to harvest the found urls,$5 for around 15k of found links isn't bad!
It's all about thinking outside the box.nowadays only a fool for would actually blast 20k of links to a site in one go,simply because once you start you cannot really stop.

I tend to drip feed,maybe 100-200 a day,less for a new site and yes,I blast direct.

You can use scrapebox to blast your web 2.0's,bookmarking pages,in fact anything with your link on it.I use 16 proxies at anyone time.
If you're gonna use scrapebox directly I suggest filtering the PR,I only blast direct with urls of pr1 or higher.
I use dummy sites to test then look for found links and use them on various sites.
This can help delay any akismet bans, though in reality it makes little difference.

Scrapebox is a must have, learn to use it well, experiment with the custom footprint, use comments on highly spammed pages as keywords to harvest all the urls the comments are on.This regularly gets me 30k+ of urls daily.

As I mentioned I use fiverr blasts on dummy sites to get the found links(copy and pasting comments then adding " " for keywords can get tedious).

Good luck.

Yes Proxies will not save you from bandwidth usage.

I got banned by my ISP and I was using like 40 private proxies or so at the time when I first started.

A proxy might help you to not get banned from commenting on blogs, but with regards to bandwidth usage your ISP will know that there is a ton of bandwidth being sucked up by your home.

Can you give me a link to BHS or tell me what it is? I'd love to check it out, especially if it includes SEO Nuke and Sick Submitter.

SpamAHost.com is a pretty good VPS/Dedi provider and is bullet proof.

No worries,it's a vps service,very well run,well I've not had issues anyway.
wwwdotbhsvpsdotcom

I'm not sure I can post the link so replace the "dot" with a . lol and you'll get it.

The Don package has everything,it is what I use and it also has xrumer 7,though I have no idea how to use it.

Wow that site rocks, that is a lot of good software they include. If you have an affiliate link send it to me through PM and I'll sign up through you in the next few days.
