Aged Domains

This may be a silly question, but once I buy an aged domain and register it, doesn't it lose it's seasoning? Won't Google see the new registration date and treat the domain as new?

No. Old are not considered the ones registered long time ago, but the ones that have long history in the internet archive (web.archive.org).

Old does not mean no good...

infact some of the OLD domains can still sell at a good price...

If its been indexed, then no. If it hasn't then the waters a little bit murkier.

my personal experience has been that unless you arrange to keep the old domain in the original name (the seller will need to sign a contract to state you own the name, even though its in his) then google treats it as brand new.

I have seen it keep its pagerank, so it looks like its ok, only to find that outgoing links from that site have no impact, which is a bit sneaky on googles part.

it's a good point i personally like to register domains with a clear history, not indexed, but it's hard to find sometimes.

if you can keep the old domain registration info the better. even better if it's hidden. if it's not i'd try and change the info gradually over time.

i do think that if you make a complete registration switch overnight that it could signal a "new" site to google. who knows.

and sure, biz get bought and sold everyday, but that doesn't mean that when they do their quality remains the same. i think google takes that approach with websites.
