What is the goal for going 100% online?

While most people would probably differ on what income should be the benchmark for when doing solely online work, and not depending on any other income or actively searching for any other income (ie. offline work), I still struggle with the fact that I am not sure when success is met online wise.

Is it 5000$ per month, or is it 10.000$ per month?

Of course this also depends on how much you need to keep surviving the way you do, but it would be interesting to hear what benchmark other people put for "success".

Personally I think mine is 5000$ and up per month from pure online advertisement and online related income. Then I can pretty much just keep on minding my own business and not having to "talk" actively to people in the outside world in order to get jobs.

$100k/mo. Once you've done this for awhile talking to people will actually be a good thing.

By not talking to people in the "outside world" I was mostly referring to the fact that you dont engage in business ventures which are not 100% online based.

However with 100k/month I am pretty sure you wont be lonely nor single that long.

i would say the most important thing is (like with linkbuilding) - a diversity of income

if you depend on one niche/site/income sourse you might get hit
if you do websites, you must do them with adsense/cpa/affiliate products in different niches
also dont depend only on micro niche sites, try building a few authority sites with much content, it pays of in the end...
also try PPC for traffic (or other paid traffic sources), for some niches you will get a good ROI
if you want very targeted traffic go and pay for FB ads

i mean there are so many possibilities, try them all and choose a few that work for you, but be prepeared to adapt few times a year or you will fall behind.

some people earned 10K from adsense monthly, and were banned, or were hit by panda X.X and lost 90% traffic.
So you must have a backup plan always..

I could live with 2K comfotably, it all depends on country, some might live with $200 per month. But i would advise going for 5 times your comfortable level before going 100% into online game - you might be hit tomorrow and have to rebuild your empire again...

As toples said, diversify. At the moment, I have all of my eggs in one basket (one main site), but I'm quickly focusing on branching out and creating a few different projects. You never know what can happen in the online world. Good to have a back up plan or two.

Lonely or single with 100K / month? Well, you might not be.
But all your GF / friends might be gold diggers and if you flaunt your money, you better be careful.
You should have friends ... etc without them knowing of your business.

IMO , no matter what you ALWAYS have to have some sort of income that comes from something offline .

As clyde mentioned IM can be a lonely world at times which is why I love the fact that even though I could live very comfortably off of my IM income it is still supplemental . Meaning my main business needs no tending to and hence there is no pressure to succeed online.

Something that I have found to be very true with making money online is that it's VERY hard to do for people who actually need to make the money. I don't know if they are just trying to hard , lack the money to invest or what , but from my experience it's just always easier to work when you don't actually need the money.

Another thing is that no one can say what it takes for you to be content. The more money you make the more you spend, I'd definitely say the 5 - 10 k per month is not enough money to work online only (unless you have a really shitty job which is just a waste of time) . I'd go for something more like a daily benchmark instead of monthly. Something in between 750 - 1k per day.

I won't quit my day job until I am debt free, have about 100k liquid in the bank and at least 5-10k coming in monthly. It's just security thing that if everything I'm doing suddenly went to crap, I would have time to rebuild the income without having to panic.

It all depends on your lifestyle. If you even make 1K a month and you are happy and satisfied then it should be good for you.

If you are making 100K a month and still not happy with your lifestyle then you should chase for more.

I've start 100% online job since 2010, but just couple of last month thinking seriously to make money from IM

Well the more you make the more you probably end up spending as you want more as well. But realistically most people dont make more than 5-6k per month from their regular job. So I would assume that 5-6k per month from online ventures would apply to most people, as it would also let them concentrate full time to push that to 10-11k without having to get up for a job.
