Assuming you have other needs taken care of, like love and whatnot, money DOES bring happiness. The more money you have, the more freedom you enjoy, to do whatever the fuck you want. The more freedom you enjoy, the happier you are, as you don't have to worry about restrictions, be they of material or other nature. Don't know who said it but "I've been rich and I've been poor. Rich is better" seems spot on.

"Money doesn't bring happiness" is possibly the biggest crock of shit in history, right up there with religion. Must've been coined by some stinking rich people, in order to keep laborers happy with their low level of wealth, so they don't try to get rich too.

Well money MAY not bring ultimate happiness, but it's proven that if you don't have money you are stressed, worried, and depressed (in many cases).

There was an investigation by an european university dont remember the name, which came to conclusion that happyness increases strongly from money until you hit around ~3000 Euro. After this step it only increases very slowly.

I have to agree to this. I always get lazy if i get enough money and also start loosing focus.

Also shopping only makes you happy a very short time. Its like a drug you need it all the time to work.

Very much agreed. Even if you don't have any desire for a luxurious champagne and caviar lifestyle, just having enough money in the bank to last you for a while and handle any unexpected expenses is such a weight off your mind. If the car breaks down, the dog gets sick, you need a root canal or a new computer in a hurry, you can just go out and do it and not worry about it rather than turning over every penny twice. Financial stress is a real killer. And it's very difficult to maintain your physical health or a harmonious relationship if you're worried about money all the time.

You dont have to worry about feeding your family, paying the bills etc, and you also have the freedom to do what you want rather than spending all your life working to make someone else richer.

I can not say I'm poor but besides paying bills I can not afford to go out every weekend and eat at restaurant every day so I can not say I am unhappy but I'd certainly be happier to have money to buy nice things to my girlfriend to invest...and yes money may not bring ultimate happiness, but if you don't have money to pay your next bill you will become stressed,worried and trust me you can not be happy under these conditions.

Money in the wrong hands leads to a miserable life - see many lotto winners that not only piss it away but manage to get themselves in debt, jail or dying as they are pursued for tax evasion or just the stress of losing it all.

BUT those that are wise OR have been in the situation where they got stupid and spent way too much and learned from it, or have waited in line at a church for donated food - let's just say it gives you perspective that money can't buy. Sooo... once things are better you've learned to apprecite it and not only to be incredibly happy for it but also to focus on helping others to also improve their situation.

I describe myself as a 'frustrated philanthropist'. I want to help others more than I do now. I can occassionally donate food to our church and have given toys to those that need them when our son out grew them... but it would make me happier to be able to do more. And yea, being able to buy a decent home, driving a nicer car (I'd like a Lexus, not a Rolls or Mercedes). Being able to live 'comfortably' would be nice.

todays society is based on competition. the less competition you have the more profit/money you'll make.
as John D. Rockefeller said : "Competition is a sin !" and he knew what he was talking about. the average people are programmed to compete. why ? 'cause already Caesar enjoyed watching gladiators, so do the big players today and everywhere.
money = freedom = happiness
