hey guy ok so i posted a thread last night about a domain i sold for 750 bucks, i did a domain apprasal on it, and it come up with 2300 bucks its a .net domain a little over 2 years old, i got lucky when i found it i guess but had now idea, so 750 buck is great, so today they have started with the escrow service for the paymant, bonus. So now here the thing, i went back to namecheap just for the hell of it just to see if there were any other domains there like it, i know when i got it all that i seen was the .net, so i went to look and i see a .info there, ok well lets look up the appraisal on, well holy shit, its just under 6 years old and valued at 5,700 usd, i was shocked so now i have these 2 domains valued at over 8000 usd, .net im selling for 750, but now im like should i hold off and see what i can get for the 2 of them, this is a major company in the usa give me all your input guys cuz im not sure how to approach this

if you made a deal about 750 bucks you have to give away them for 750 bucks.. whatever the agreement was written or verbal..

verbal agreements are not legal, i'd say find a way to hold out and get the money it's actually worth, I'm sure you can bs your way through it.

People like you are one of the reasons that domaining and business online is often a f**king nightmare.

If you made an agreement you STICK to it. I don't give a shit if it's "legal" or not. Verbal agreements can actually be legal in most countries, so don't give stupid advice.

Business is all about integrity and keeping your word. If you agreed to a deal, follow through with it.

@ OP - domain registrars always list domains with stupidly high prices. Their business model is this:

- List domains at a high price
- People like you think their domains are suddenly worth 100x what they really are
- Everyone lists their domain as they see "high valuations"
- The registrar charges 20% commission
- A very small % of domains sell to idiots
- Makes it worthwhile to the registrar, but as a seller it's really just a lottery

Either way, stick to your word and move on.

I bet that the domains are not worth that much. Domain market is one big bubble. Wait until google devalues exakt match domain names. ;) For serious projects its better to build a brand.

like meathead1234 said, verbal agreements are legal is most countries. and anyway.. if you won't get a bad reputation stop this bs and make the deal..

yes im letting the .net go for 750, but im asking for input on the .info domain should i say i have this too? its a 6 year old domain, i picked it up for $2.50

Sure, add it in for $250 or something like that.

the domains are definatly worth that or more, this is a big well know usa company, and they must know it if there willing to pay as much as they did for the .net

can you check the google keyword tool for us please and tell us how many [exact match] searches this domain has?!

please make sure you check the [exact macht] option on the left and uncheck broad match (sorry you probably know this... just read the bookstorebookstore thread last night...)

i want to know if they want to buy it to have a seo advantage for the keyword they want to rank for or if they want to have the domain for branding purposes.

that plays a role in the value of the .info for them.

yes it is over 650 000 exact each month

Werll I am sure the company looked up the .info. Whats it worth? 2.50 what you paid for it! Now if you sell it for more, it may or may not be worth it. But try to throw it into the deal for 250 or 300 and see if you get it! Good luck!

Out of curiosity, where did you sell the domain at? I'm finding it hard to sell any of my domains outside of flippa and even on there its difficult to get a good value for good aged domains.

well i didnt do anything the company contacted me

the "valuations" they give you for domains are 100% BS.
Most of the time you can NOT expect to actually sell the domain for what an automated valuation tool says it's worth.

Do not pass up a good deal in hand to hold out for a computer generated value, most likely you wouldn't even get half of that.

I agree with what some of the others here have said - try to upsell the .info

yes the only thing is, im a bit worried about them comming back and saying im cyber squatting

The deal was for .net only correct?

So tell them the .info will also be included for an additional $750.

This way you make $1,500

Or,

You keep the .info for yourself if it was not included in the deal.

Remember the key point is NOT to get greedy.

You may think that the domain is worth a lot more, but if you back out, no other prospects may buy the domain and you are stuck with $0.

This happens often.

Stick to the plan.

Info domains are shit. No one take them seriously)

the "valuations" they give you for domains are 100% BS.

Totally agree. When I was flipping sites I would find some unbelievable "values," but the truth is that no one actually abides by these sites. But what you can do, is show them that this site values this .info at XXX and that is what I'm looking for. Tell them you were naive when you sold the .net, but you also have a .info that you are looking to sell at this certain price.

Additionally, everyone has said it, but don't be a dick. No matter what law this would ge governed under, most likely the CISG, "bad faith" is a killer. If the court found you reneged on your deal or did something to get out of it, the court will not look to you favorably. Verbal contracts are very much as strong as written contracts (but depends on the law as to whether the amount in question requires a written agreement). This is more of a statement to everyone dealing in international business.

Lol, negative repped me for helping the op? I guess I hit a nerve there, eitherway I stand by what I said, you think the rest of the people in the world care about "sticking to a deal"?

The only reason meathead says this is because all he can think about is the times this clearly has happened to him, and the only reason he even cares, is because he would not make money as a result of it, so yeah ofc he's gonna get upset, I would too.

With that said, watch out for your own back, and don't listen to the moralfags who tell you otherwise, in the end they watch out for their own back too.

Yes, I do think other people care, it's called integrity. If you choose not to do that, it's up to you. That's how I've built my business and lots of others have too. It's not ALWAYS about making the most money possible.

This hasn't happened to me for a while, I'm pretty good at judging the warning signs of flakey sellers. I do often help people for free (no ulterior motive at all) and stories like this are worryingly common.

Why do you think it's acceptable to back out of a deal because of some shitty automated valuation? He's agreed the deal and the cash is in Escrow waiting. Why would you not follow through with the deal?
