is it worth to register domain which was already redirected to another (quality) site? can you suggest how to get gems out of all of these dropped domains?

Research the past history (archive), pagerank, alexa rank, backlinks etc and you will stumble upon some good ones.

yeah i just found couple with back links and dmoz listed but were redirected to new good quality websites so is it still worth it to snap up them?

Buying redirected domains that are Dmoz listed and having good backlinks shouldn't be a problem. It would take a bit of time for Google to re-recognize the domains when you make your changes.

I did the same with a redirected/dropped domain that was dmoz listed. Quite instantly after building backlinks for a week, the authority increased and the posts I make also ranked in page 1/2 for the niche. So go ahead, experiment with one if you want to convince yourself.

Yeah its not a problem as long as you register some good ones. Lets not start with registering hundreds of these at once. Experimenting with just 2-3 in start would be a good idea and of course personal experience is better than others advice

If you want to backorder a domain (the one's that aren't expired yet but you want to snag them as soon as they expire and become available) then use backorder service like snapnames or pool. Or you can purchase (some source give it free too) recently expired domain lists and find good ones from there.

I have had good luck doing this. I have found if you follow a few simple rules you can get pagerank super fast because the big G thinks your already years old.

dropday works for me. $20/month I think but you can perform pretty advanced searches, and sort by PR, backlinks, archived pages, EMD (broad) searches, age, etc*. Aside from shelling out for pricey domaining software, this is the best tool I've come across.

I've used freshdrop(dotnet) as well, but after they went paid I haven't been back (no real reason there).

Important to double-check ALL of these stated criteria, especially if PR is your goal, as a large percentage of these are faked.

Namejet is good for Com/Net/Org but you might find better value in ccTLDs if looking for expired backlink domains.

Netfleet, for example is good for .au domains

That is one of the great site to figgure them oput and then need to check various ranks.
