Have Anyone Been to Philippines?

im a filipino too, i got a friend from belgium, he stay here for half a year and he finds philippines a nice place to live, he said people here are so friendly.. sadly he returned to belgium to arrange some business matters but he told us he will be back and he dont wanna live there in belgium anymore.. he was planning to spend his lifetime here.

this is quite a funny thread. everyone's chippin in with their own take of "the philippines". i'm a filipino btw and if you want to truly find out why not just pack up your bags and go? there are places and people to love, places and people to not so love. same as all over the world. we have our own flavor in our own little niche. of course people from other countries won't feel "at home". that's why they are called foreigners. would be the same for filipinos living in other countries.

i like the reply about aircons only in hotels and internet only in cafes. quite funny really.

want the best advice? pack your bags and go. travel the world. enjoy stuff. if you're just looking for something cheap, even china will have upscale places only a few can afford.

ps: a lot of filipinos can be overtly sensitive about the philippines and on being filipinos. just ignore the violent reply from the earlier posts. if you're here and you're friendly enough, filipinos will love you back just like a member of their family.

It's a nice place to visit for 2 weeks but you'd never want to live there. If you want to stay 5 months you'd be living off savings because you'll never find a job. The only internet is at the Internet Cafes. Food and booze are cheap for sure. You won't find a 10 room mansion to rent for $500. Those places were scooped up by U.S. retirees long ago. Hot and very humid with no air conditioning unless you go to a hotel.

Just want to reply in order to correct this post.

1. There is internet in the Philippines. We're not the number 1 solution for outsourcing if we don't have internet. Sure, you'd have to make do with 1 to 3 mbps of speed. But it's unfair to say that we don't have internet.
2. You can easily find a 10 room mansion to rent, but not for $500. You're looking at about $2500 for something that huge. You just have to know where to look. You'll probably have to settle in a first-class municipality, not Manila.
3. We do have air conditioning, not just hotels. In fact, my air conditioning is running right now.

I'd have to agree that it can get hot and humid. But the OP did say that he's planning to come here on December. Weather's good from December to February.

Just like in any other country, there are bad and there are good areas in the Philippines. I'm sorry to hear that some of the posters here have had bad experiences. But maybe they stayed in bad parts of the country. Take Manila (the capital) for example. I'm not a big fan of it. It's too chaotic even for a Filipino like me. This is why I moved out of there and went back home to the province (a first-class municipality with all the conveniences of modern cities but without the chaos).

Now, you have to remember that you're the one visiting. This means that you're the one who has to adjust to our culture. Generally speaking, Filipinos are nice and hospitable. But if you're rude and you act all-mighty, you can't expect the same treatment. Familiarize yourself with the people and the cultures and you'll have an awesome time.

Weather here in UK is just Horrible, thinking about Moving to philippines For some 4-5months while the Summer comes here Again.
Mainly because of december-june weather season and because everything is SOO Cheap!
Brb Renting out 10bdr Mansion for $500/month , brb Hills of food in restaurant $2/meal , brb Live-in Maid $30/month

But Im a bit worrying since its super cheap third world country- isn't everything there Dirty And stuff like that?

Be nice; But dont be stupid, many locals see foreigners as goldmines so they might use you for their gains. Be street-smart, do your research on local customs (we are archipelagic so we are multi cultural), so you could adapt to norms and shit like that. Dont be an asshole so you wont get stabbed. dont appear like a nerd so you wont get robbed.


It is better if you'll visit here with a friend so you'll have somebody to watch your back.

I have been to USA many times. Not ALL Americans are brainwashed nor stupid...but the greatest majority of people are "clue-less" about life in general and about other countries in special...

And my statement is supported by REAL US citizen... that have watched how US is declining on an intellectual level for the past 20 years.

I have personally dealt with US people that in my country would have been considered plain dumb for the lack of general knowledge they had!..As russians, as germans, as english people, as french, as italians, as spanish, as any other country...Dumb people are everywhere.

The only thing about US is that they dont really care about knowing about other countries...Like that alknown thing that - There are bears on russian streets..LOL. 1 ameerican in 10-or 15 have an international passport (mainly because they needed one to go to Canada)...

Point is: Knowledge is power!

Anyways...not all Americans are like that...I would love to go to Philippines...but why wont you go to Hawaii and live in a tent near McDonalds - at least you will have free internet.... I know a guy that is an Internet Marketer in Hawaii, lives in a tent by the ocean and uses internet from fastfood places...what a life!!
